I am new to reloading and this will be my first at precision shooting as well. I have done some searching and it appears that a favorite of some shooters is the Sierra Match King 69gr projectile. I have two manuals and have seen recommended data for reloading this round. I was hoping that anyone with experience reloading for the 223 round for target shooting would be able to offer up their recommended reload to a starter like myself. Now I am not looking specifically for data for the 69gr SMK, but any load you are using would be greatly appreciated. The more details the better and any info would be appreciated.

Rifle being used is a Savage 10 Precision Carbine. 1:9 twist, 20" heavy barrel.

Each rifle is different. What load works for one rifle isn't guaranteed to be replicated on yours. Pick up some of the popular bullets and work up your loads from the low end and increase by 0.5grains to close to max recommended. Once you start getting close to the max powder weight, keep an eye out for high pressure signs. Discovering your perfect powder and bullet combo should all be part of the fun in reloading.

+1 for sure!

I have the same rifle, and while it's no guarantee my best load for it will be the best in your rifle, here it is;

Bullet: Hornady 53gr. V-Max
Powder: VARGET, 25.7 grains
Overall length: 2.244"

I hunt varmints with mine, but in the course of the load testing, I did try numerous loads with the 69gr. SBK/Varget and simply couldn't find a combination that shot well. Since then, I bought a .204 Ruger, and now have 4 powder to draw on. My goal in the coming year is to revisit the .223/69gr. SBKs, but I can honestly tell you the load I just gave you is a 1-hole shooter @ 100 yards if I do my part. 55gr. V-Max over a charge of 25gr. of VARGET, 2.25" OAL, is a very close runner-up. VERY close. Good luck!

My Rem 5R (also 1:9) seems to like 52gr Hdy Match bthp with 25.0 gr of I4320. Tried everything up to 75 gr match and seemed to not be able to stabilize anything much heavier then 55 gr.

My model 10 precision carbine likes the 69gr match kings for paper. 23.8gr of H335 at 2.240" OAL with CCI BR-4 primers seem to give me the best groups.

But just like others have said, even between the same model of rifle, results can vary. So work up the load from starting charge weight and check for signs of pressure while you're testing for accuracy.

ok, i have a Savage LRPV .223; 69gr SMK 23.5grs of H335 twist 1 in 8" & groups are usually 1/4"-1/8" MOA, sometimes cloverleaf groupings too! oh, & 5-7 thousands of of lands, cant remember OAL but i measure(StoneyCreek measuring tool) from Ogive of bullet not tip. SgtRock out

Your manuals give an accuracy load? I've always found the powder given for that works well.
You may want to try a 77 grain Match King too.

So I am just getting in from my local store. They had no 69gr SMK but did have 2 boxes of the 55gr Game Kings (1355) so I picked them up for the time being till the 69gr pills come in. Now I did grab 1 lb of the H335. Anyone have any load data for the 55gr game kings. There was no info on the Hodgon website and I currently only have a Hornady and a Speer manual. This is getting me down before I eve start!

Sierra manual says start with 23 grains, work up to 27.5 max.

So I have been searching for the last few hours with no luck. Does anyone have a copy they would be willing to part with or know where I could purchase myself a copy here in Canada of the Sierra Reloading manual?
