Scope ring recommendation for 56mm objective

I don't have the scope in hand yet but I've ordered a Pentax Gameseeker 2.5-10x56 and I'm wondering what I'm going to need for rings on my Ruger American. The rifle already has bases (I'm assuming they're Weaver but I can take pictures if needed). Any help would be appreciated!
 
You might to look at the scope and realize how big it is before you buy. That 56mm odj will be huge and harder to use on a rifle. Handling will suffer.

I would suggest a smaller scope like a 3x9x40. My personal experience makes this a better choice.

Too late. It's already ordered. :p A friend of mine had a 50 or a 52 (I can't remember which) and I really liked it. If I don't like it, I'll chalk it up as a lesson learned and get something smaller.
 
Cut him some slack guys, he hasn't been a member long enough to know that the maximum allowable objective size to ask questions about on CGN is 40mm, and if you must have a variable, it better be a lightweight Leupold. Anything else is just plain ignorance. ;)

OP, you'll probably need high rings, but may get away with lower ones so long as your objective doesn't touch the barrel and your bolt handle won't hit the eye piece when you lift and cycle the bolt.

The scope is going on a cantilever mount tapped on a Win 94... so no bolt handle issues...

There's good reason the replies are as such. Collective experience here is offering advice based on experience to the OP.
 
I've had a couple 56's, Talley rings on the first one was a good setup and worked out with like half a millimeter to the barrel on a browning, but that one had a target barrel, it will be a bit bulky on the RSI, I currently have a savage with a vortex 50mm (with the adjustable objective front ring) and it's probably as bulky as a straight 56mm, but it's not a problem.

Lots of folks like a 40 or 44mm, but maybe that's just the current popular trend moving away from heavy bulky optics that were more popular some time ago.
 
Still can't spend your money how you want it seems on CGN!!

Some mediums will work, most highs will.Some times it is a trial and error process as to fitment and comfort, if $$$ isn't too tight get two sets , you will always use the second set somewhere.

I personally like 50mm objectives, there's a noticeable difference to my eyes at first and last light, but that's just my experience.

I agree... I have them on all of my "watch" rifles for big game.... all of my walk about rifles have smaller objectives though....

That's what I was thinking but I thought I would ask on chance that somebody has mounted something larger and has some recommendations.
 
Here is a pic of my Redfield with 50mm mounted on a Rem 700 as an example.... I used high rings when I mounted it, but as you can see, I likely could have gotten away with mediums... As someone stated earlier, if money is not an issue, get both and try them... never hurts to have a good set of rings hanging around....

Also, if you are OCD like me you will end up having to sell off the high ones anyways to get what you want so you are 100% satisfied... (In this case I actually sold off both the scope and rings....lol)

You will most likely need high rings...if possible its best to take the rifle and scope into a local shop and see what height is needed. You will enjoy that scope in low light conditions, have fun :)
