.22 Ammo Stash

I have around 10k rounds of .22LR and 3k Rounds of .22 WMR. That includes 1,800 rds of Winchester white box, 1,800 rds of Remington Yellow Jackets, 1,800 rds Remington Golden Bullets, 1,500 rds CCI stingers,1,000 rds CCI Mini Mags, 1,000 rds Winchester SuperX and a few other types as well as a handful fo Winchester buk packs.

I think I've got just over ~2k rounds of Federal bulk, 2k rounds of CCI Quiet, 1 box of Remmington subsonic, and 6 boxes of Lapua Pistol King.

So it's not much, but my Fed bulk is going fast at the range thanks to my CMMG and P226 kit, so I'm gonna pick up one or two bucket-of-bullets when they're back in stock and then I'll be back on top ;)

My rule of thumb on ammo stockpiling: When buying a new firearm, purchase just as much ammo as the value of the new firearm you've purchased. If you cannot do this, try weekly or monthly a little bit at a time. Have a constant reserve of rounds that you cycle through just like food storage, "first in - first out".

As for the ratios to balance the quantity for SHTF scenario (or ammo shortage!): 1/3 .22LR, 1/3 shotgun or rifle rounds for hunting, of many variety, and 1/3 Milsurp ammo for your battle rifles.

My suggested minimum 7000 rounds .22LR, 7000 rounds of shotgun/rifle for hunting, and 7000 rounds of Milsurp. Live to a strict code. If you cannot afford to replace your reserve stockpile by either purchasing factory made rounds or by reloading with primers, powder and bullets - don't go shooting. You owe it to yourself and your family if you are a prepper and take the prepping lifestyle seriously. If not, ignore all of my advice.

FYI- I can't imagine having 20,000 rounds of .22lr stockpiled, but for long-term storage have some variety and buy as high quality ammo as you can afford. It would take forever to shoot 20,000 .22lr rounds and hoarding this much is just plain selfish. If you buy it for barter (if you really believe the end is near which I don't) this may justify having 20K on hand. That's a lot of plinking time otherwise.

Here's my current .22 ammo stash:

I hope to hit up the range this weekend and maybe find another round or two on the ground to add to the pile.

With a stash this large would you be inclined to sell some to me ?... LOL !

10 boxes of Remington Thunderbolt 40 gr. (500) pack and 15 boxes 36gr. Winchester HP (555) and about 30 (50) pack of CCI.Total round count approx. 14,000.I buy all my ammo at my local CT.The manager will send me a txt when they have the great buys on.Pls note I have 7 shooters in my house so 1500 rnds are nothing for a day at the range.

I have a few thousand but from what I've seen there is no shortage. I've had no issue getting ammo whenever I need it and most of the stores I frequent always seem to have 22 in stock. I think the so called shortage depends on how close you live to a ammo hoarder who cleans out every store he goes to. You get a few of those guys in your small town and you'll be lucky to see a box.
There's a shortage here in Vancouver, haven't seen cci in a while... Only Winchester and Remington bucket of bullets!

about 15k...started to keep more than 1000 last fall...some of the prices are already much higher that the prices on some of the earlier boxes i bought...i should have started sooner, this stuff gets used so fast...but i have enough now...i need to save some dough for a nice .308 bolt rifle i have in mind...

I keep my 7000 rounds on hand, but cannot imagine going through 1500 rounds in a day. I have 6 children, so when they are old enough I imagine I will find out what you are experiencing with your shooters. I mostly shoot my Browning Buckmark, 5 rounds at a time per indoor range rules. If shooting 25 rounds through a rifle magazine (which I imagine you do) it would eat through ammo in no time. I suppose you are glad it is .22lr, huh?
