RFMA (Rob Furlong's Markmanship Academy)

Sorry I wasn't trying to be a ####, I guess it is just my nature! Truthfully though, with a pass time as expensive as this, I think it makes great sense to do exactly what the OP did, he spent some cash to try it out first.

I had dinner and beers a few months back with Furlong and Ex Navy SEAL Brandon Webb (SOFREP.com founder) and we talked about the entire peeing incident. Then we continued to swap Army stories about pissing on guys/equipment and other really common Combat Arms ####.
Does the course cost extra if you want to get peed on?

REALLY!! Did you just say that the World Record, let me repeat, World Record, is only defined by the guy who was in the "range bracket" and likely any CF Sniper could have made it if he was far enough away. I suppose that is why there are only two confirmed kills at those distances to date. Furlong's and the British sniper who beat his the year later which still stands. I guess we see guys all the time who can make hits on moving targets at 2+ kms away! Happens on a regular basis:jerkit:

Ya thats exactly what i'm saying actually. He and Aaron Perry traded world record shots that day. Me and several other snipers have hit killzone gongs at beyond 2300m before. And thats in Petawawa...with canadian ammo. Its not as hard as you think.

Well Ive hit body size gongs at 2100yards with a much smaller caliber (.338 improved) but I would never have the nerve to say that I could do that in field conditions with a moving target and certainly not say it is not as hard as I think. Being that it is not an every day occurrence, I would thing that it is still at least as difficult as I think. Being that I shoot with guys who are grouping body size at 2600 on steel, none of them would consider hitting a person (a dynamic target) easy at that distance. Hell, isn't the flight time of a .50 at that distance like 11 seconds or something. Pretty ballsy to say you can hit steel. In 11 seconds I can be in a completely different spot even if I don't know I am being shot at.

And yes, his spotter was an integral part of that team. It goes without saying to anyone who has put rounds downrange at that kind of distance. Steel or not.

So like I said... If you have a 600$ Rem tactical and that is what you shoot bring it! Why shooting a 10k rifle is it will be the last time in your life?

Just saying.

Screw that, I can shoot my POS Rem 700 anyday. For the xtra bit of coin, I would shoot the PGW and love it for every second I had it in my hands, then it would be a fond memory, like that really amazing escort... :)

11 second flight time seems a little protracted at an average Vel. of 236m/sec for 2600m distance. Without knowing too much about .50 cal ballistics, flight time is probably closer to 3 sec. approx. Still a fair bit of time for a target to move.

TOF is 5 seconds... not 11

5 seconds is still a lot of time to move about and be able to anticipate where the target will be. Go to a busy place where people are just milling about and see how far they get in 5 seconds.

It was an amazing shot anyways. Once I can finally justify spending the money on the course instead of the new railings for the back deck and patio cover and new drive way and retaining wall and and and (joys of renovating) I'll hopefully be able to be way more consistant into the 4 digit ranges

Well, I saw Rob's course a year ago. I could not make it due to work. But I am saving money to take his basic course next year. The cost is what it is. Some will say is too much and others will say it is fair. I figure if it is important to me - I will do whatever it takes to achieve the goal. I always like to learn from others and see what I can do through their teaching. It is a personal challenge to myself. After the basic course, I will likely take the extreme course. Then I have to save up to get a 338 before taking the advance long range course.

I'd love to take one of the courses, but at the current time I just can't fit it in. Have to make do with just plain ol' LR shooting for the time being I suppose.

A few very knowledgeable and skilled shooters have already chimed in on this thread, I suggest the armchair commandos double check what they type before posting.

But when you've got a good girl at home, why pay to take out an escort for a weekend of fun...?? you're going to go home to that same old girl, which might just disappoint you to the point where you won't love her the same...
