OK, I was just looking at a few photos firends of mine sent me from NE Ontario. Now in spring bear hunting history, something very, very, weird happened in Ontario over the past many years. Spring bear hunting was banned by Mike Harris, the author of the "Common Sense Revolution". This decision really blew that precept all to phoque. Now, it is re-introduced by Kathleen Wynne, albeit on a trial basis, the most left-wing premier in Ontario's history, while she was in a de facto coalition with the Dippers. Now this is phoqued up. I'm happy about it, mind you, and I really hope it's expanded to all of Ontario next year, but it is phoqued up that Comrade Wynne would give us back a spring bear hunt.

Mike Harris cancelled the spring bear hunt against all the advice from his provincial biologists saying it is was not necessary and spring hunting has no effect on black bear populations. It was strictly a political decision spurred on by CBC's paid hypocrite, Dr. David Suzuki and his foundation. They plastered billboards all over Toronto, TV ads with crying "orphaned cubs," and stats that were deliberately manipulated to show what they wanted. I know this because I was one of the MNR people working on the black bear studies. They highly inflated the number of cubs orphaned because they automatically put two cubs to each female to inflate the numbers. Most females harvested in the spring were either ###ually immature or too old to breed, with no visible lactation. Anyways, Dr. Suzuki told Harris if he didn't cancel the spring bear hunt, he would do everything he could to make sure Harris wouldn't win the next election. So Harris folded. After that, my contract with the study ended, wasn't renewed, and I moved out west.

I totally agree with what you say, I just find it ironic that Harris would have caved, and to have the hunt brought back by Wynne.
