Gus, I see posts in EE sections like: "Selling Norinco 911 with $500 of upgrades for $800".
Why would anyone do that? Are you guys trying to make a Porsche out of a Hyundai? It still going to be a Hyundai, you now that. And why would anyone buy it if you can by a brand new Remington, Ruger and line of other brand names in model 911?

I bought very few cheap guns in my life, I played with them and sold them. If I liked the style, I saved up money and bought a really nice gun or rifle. That's the investment. Life is too short to play with ugly rifles. :)

I sure like my Norc 1911. I learned a fair bit about how a 1911 works by doing all my own work on it, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be willing to start filing away on an STI or a Kimber for my first attempt at undercutting a trigger guard or fitting a beaver tail. That said, I'm not planning on selling it either.

I have owned cheap and middle high end 1911 pistols over the years. A well tuned Nork with willson combat parts will hang with the big boys for sure. But you can still ask a heafty price for a well worn kimber and get it. Name brand will always bring in the cash. Now having said that,...my favorite "go pistol" is still my nork 1911 over all my other guns. I will never get the time or the money I spent back and I realize that,...some haven't caught on yet.LOL

What's wrong with hyundai

I like mine. Cheap to own and runs great.

Nothing wrong with cheap guns. Some of the best guns are cheap and make good canvases to practice on. Obviously a Norc is no Ferrari, but with enough work and way less cash it can go just as fast and just as effectively. It may not be pretty, but if it gets the job done everytime, then there isn't much to complain about.

I think norinco make good firearms for the price, but as the OP said even if you put 500$ on a norinco 1911 it'll always be a norinco 1911 not worth more than 250-300$ used.

Side note: a 2014 Hyundai is not the piece of crap you make it out to be -- their quality/ reliability is typically above-average and for certain models, among the best. Your thinking is over a decade stale and only shows you are not up-to-date on the subject.

I jus spent a few hours removing all the "good parts" I had installed on my 2 Nork 1911's to get them ready for the EE. Back to bone stock (mostly) and hopefully flip them for $275-$300.
Parts I'll list separately. Love affair with cheap guns is over

Sorry, Hyundai are still crap, and priced well above where they should be. Few buddies own newer Tucson and Sante Fe models and have nothing but problems, mostly with the electronics. Plus the styling, handling, and power output make NA vehicles look like Porsche.... Lol

"...a few buddies....." yeah you're the next JD Powers lol

20 years ago s.o.p. was to get a GI Springfield and gut it. Then add on not $500 but more like $ 2k worth of parts and build a race gun.

Now, there's no doubt times have changed, Alot ! The 1911 market today is overflowing with choices in just about every price point imaginable, and even cheap factory guns come with options that used

to only be available from a 'smith.

What some people forget is that guns are like Hot Rods. You can put 10k in but you're more than likely only gonna get 3 or 5 back on your ' investment' because the next guy has a different vision of what he

considers to be ideal. At the same time even the most sedate family car can't help but benefit from top quality tires, brakes, and suspension equipment.
