500 jeffery

I wouldn't want to try to find brass for it. TradeEx seems to have a stock of exotic brass from time to time...might be worth talking to them. Otherwise you're probably looking at import from the UK through Kynoch. A quick perusal on their website lists Leslie A Paul Gun and Rifle Makers as stockists and they advertise same on their website.

Oh, I suggest that you also purchase a hat and hold the #### onto it. The price should be rather entertaining.

Norma also make good brass for it, they are the best source I have found for .450 Rigby brass which is also difficult to come by. Any dealer who sells Norma products should be able to order it for you. As others mentioned, Kynoch brass is another option.

This confirms my research so far. I'm not in search of the caliber but it happens to be the chambering in a rifle I really like. I wish the 505g shot .510 projectiles...

From my research so far norma is the best quality and dimension but I don't see cartridges or brass in stock anywhere.

I guess I'll go with my gut and wait for a double NE or a custom 458 lott.

x2 on Norma --- they seem to have the best availability here in Canada for exotic brass. You'll likely have to place an order, but the wait may not be long. I ordered some Norma 505 Gibbs from Budget Shooter Supply (I think they're still a sponsor here?) h ttp://www.budgetshootersupply.ca/ and I think it took less than a month to have it in my hands. I'd highly recommend them.

Bertram makes it. Not in any way cheap though. Try Shooter's Choice in Waterloo. Rusty Wood in B.C. lists it as 'Special Order' only at $277.50 per 50. That means Shooter's Choice will be able to order it as well, but you'll likely need to sell a kidney.
Norma ammo, Stateside, runs close to $200US per 10. $93.99US per 5 for Kynoch. Both prices are from Midway. You can't live without your kidneys. snicker.

If I could buy 5 boxes of norma cartirdges today even at that price, I would go for it and order dies to follow (6 months wait likely). I'm guessing I'd be waiting 1yr for the cartridges If I order.

I'll look into this option. Thanks

Have you entertained the idea of a 500 Rigby? .510 bullet in a .416 Rigby case, pretty much a ballistic twin, still pretty odd ball and much easier and better brass available for it WITHOUT the rebated rim issues. There is also one on the 460 WBY giving you a belt for headspace but I don't think it is needed, really.

There are lots of other calibers I would prefer, it's the rifle I like

I used to own a Gibbs 505 and enjoyed it a lot. Just one point, be careful when you reload, it is easy to collapse the shoulder on these rounds.

What rifle you looking at twoshots?

That's how I own a 7-08, I always wanted a mod 7 MS Custom Shop.......one became available, in new condition, at a good price in 7-08, so I now own a 7-08............never really wanted one but there you are!!!

Fortunately 7-08 is a nice cartridge... very flexible on medium game and down... I also use it on coyotes and wolves.

AHR dangerous game

yes, I was thinking that as well while looking at the jeffery case

The AHR dangerous game rifle looks very nice. I wanted one in 458 Lott but stumbled on an Empire Rifles 450 Rigby for a good price and ended up with that instead. If it's a good deal I wouldn't pass up that AHR they have a great reputation for reliable feeding and functioning on top of bring beautiful. I say if you don't have to have it up and running for a hunt ASAP then get the rifle and don't worry too much about ammo, it may take a few months to get brass and dies but after that Tradeex will keep you stocked up on woodleigh bullets.

I'm not in any hurry to shoot it, but if it's always a pain to get brass I would wait for a better option. I have a bmg press and load 50 so there is some commonality with the jeffery for equipment
