I am looking at getting a couple different options for a new upper and I am curious if there is anything like the ADCOR piston uppers?

Are there any concerns with these units?

Nothing like the ADCOR. PWS offers a piston system but I'm not a particular fan of the setup with the charging handle being mated to the bolt carrier. There's also HK and LWRC (I've owned both and currently own LWRC), but you're looking at a bit more coin for either. One of the guys running a course sheared the DD charging handle but the forward charging handle on his ADCOR allowed him to complete it. So there's definitely a benefit with the ADCOR.

Only one comment on ADCOR, this usually means I either want something no one knows anything about, I want something no one else speaks about, or I am the only one wanting a complete piston upper with features no one knows about.

I have handled an ADCOR before but it was a PWS 10.5" barrel and I was looking more for a 14.5 or 16" unit.

A friend has the 10.5" version and despite my numerous offers (both jest and serious) he steadfastly refuses to sell it to me. I've handled the 16" and it's every bit the machine that's been reported. I'm still kicking myself for not picking one up when I had the change... However, I'm kind of on an Aero Precision kick now and eagerly looking forward to the completion of my COP build.

The only thing I have seen on the ADCOR that I was not pleased with and wish could be ordered without is the standard quad rail as I would prefer smooth side rails or none for my hands to drag on when using the forward rails.

Yes I realize that I just wish that it could be milled smooth down to the bottom of the rail as the forward chagrin handle also really eliminates the ability of side mounting accessories.

Yeah, I would hate to ruin the finish of a brand new upper, destroy any potential warranty as well as potentially mill into the area(s) needed for the charging operation. I would have to mill the rails and then have the upper re-coated.

I may have ask to see the upper I had seen before and really look at it more closely to see if it may impact function or performance. If not then I may start a new trend.

I have the 16" upper, but I'm still awaiting a fully ambi lower (AX 556) to be carried as a full time product by one or more of the site sponsors. OST has told me they'll bring them in, but nothing yet to report.

That said, there are two primary drawbaks, neither of them particularly serious. 1) The quad rail - it's both rather sharp, girthy and it limits mounting options. Not insurmountable, but somethign to keep in mind. 2) Parts. Given the unique design of the bolt/piston system, I think buying a back up bolt for a rainy day wouldn't be the worst idea.

I wish I could give you more on how it shoots, but I've yet to have the chance.

I know Epoxy7 has multiples and he sings their praises loudly and often.
