Hi guys

My dad and I are looking for places to get out this year for deer season. If anyone has any contacts please pm me. We are looking anywhere north of Toronto up to Huntsville and east anywhere north of Peterborough

The best way to find access to Private land is boots on the ground and knocking on doors. Most hunters are not going to give you their hunting spots. Now Huntsville has lot's of crown land so personally I would recommend you find a spot on crown. Starting making trips now and find a place to camp in the bush and start scouting. That is really the only sure fire way to do it. Use Google earth and pick yourself up a copy of the Backroad maps to start scouting possible areas..

Now occasionally you will see people posting that they are looking to add new members to their group I probably see between 4 to 8 looking for new members each year.

Living in that are i can tell you that most crown land is swarming with hunters every year.
Get your self a map and look for places far and away from any easy access. Most "city" hunters only go as far as they have to, if you go the extra mile it should be worth your time. Magnetawan way might be worth a look but im not sure how much crown is in that area.

Stay away from Algonguin park area. Great hunting if you can find a deer between all the people.

The Huntsville area has crown land in amongst an equal or greater amount of private land. Lots of old established hunt camps in the area plus all the locals hunt and are very protective of there land, and established hunting territories whether on private or crown land. When I was partnered in a hunt camp in the Huntsville area we owned 800 acres and always had issues with trespasser's. Many folks like yourself would venture north from the big city with Ontario road map in hand and just found it hard to believe that a lot of the land was owned, under lease, or there was some folks already hunting what crown there was. My best suggestion for you since there is only two of you is to see if you can join an established hunt camp. It will take some net working to make some contacts. Quite often in the OFAH mag there are camps advertising for new hunters, perhaps you could run your own add. Joining an established camp will save you a tremendous amount of "grief", and you will enjoy the deer hunt a lot more.

Crown land in the cottage country area is packed during deer season. I hunt private and land locked crown and we still see people trespassing all the time. If you do go on crown land it’s almost like walking down Bass Pro in some areas, especially if there are good ATV trails for access. I have gone out a few times during deer season and it’s amazing anyone sees anything. Go out during small game or bow season and it’s real quite. Try to look at some maps to find private land and go knocking or see if you can join a club.

Lot's of crown to be shared on the East side of Algonquin park, but I won't say what lake I camp or hunt on. ;) But if your up around Mackey or Bissett Creek Ontario and see a white Jimmy in the bush that's probably me. :)
