BSA optics are a good way to learn about poor optics, and will only delay you getting something better. Save your money!

Try posting in the EE for a good used scope. There are lots of them sitting on benches, in drawers, and hidden in bags, that never get used anymore.

Will cost you more, but you will be far better served.

I bought one that's similar but 75x zoom and i can't remember the manufacturer and got it on sale for just under $300. I thought it was a pretty good deal at the time but i will never cheap out on one again, it's all about how clear the glass is especially if you're using it beyond 100 yards. It's so hard to pick out hits on paper and 200 yards and almost impossible at 300 yards, I've looked through 50x that were only $600 and there was a noticeable difference but still not great. I've looked through a few that are $1000 and it makes a big difference, there's always going to be optic snobs on here that will tell you that if plan on spending less than $2,500 on a spotting scope/rifle scope it's pointless but I think you can get something really good for $1000-$1,500. I'd keep a look out for something used that is much better quality.

Thanks for the advice, I forgot to mention it will be used for big game hunting, mostly sambar deer out to say a k would be nice just to access trophy potential to save walking a few K for a less than top trophy.

would be using the Wedgetail 10x40 raptor model binos to pick them up first.

does this change your thinking somewhat?

thanks

Not at all, crap is still crap.

I was coaching the Canadian Rifle Team last year at Camp Perry and a couple guys had Pentax spotting scopes that worked very well. They mentioned the price and it struck me as very cheap. I am guessing around $300, but don't recall.

I will try to find out what it was.

I have a 45 degree Minox scope that is smaller and lighter than the big scopes. If i was gouing to take a scope for hunting, this would be the one.

Maybe this was the Pentax?

Edit: I am told it was a Nikon.

My Google search turned up this Bushnell:

I have had excellent results from Bushnell, including several of their spotting scopes. They have a lifetime warranty. If you are looking for "value", Bushnell would be a good place to start. Not with BSA.
