If you are mounting the scope in the conventional position over the bridge, as opposed to a scout mount ahead of the action, one of the primary considerations with a .458 is being able to acquire sufficient eye relief to avoid getting cut. I haven't found a lever operated scope ring that has an extension. My choice therefore is a one piece pic-rail base which allows the placement of the rings anywhere along it's length. If you can find them, a quick release system like the LaRue would be a good choice, although its expensive, it has a good reputation for a repeatable zero, and the weight of a tactical style mount is not completely out of place on a .458. It seems to me that there are other similar mounts that might be less expensive and easier to acquire in Canada, but you know what they say about getting what you pay for.
I also have Leupold QRB/ring set on my Win model 70 Super Express 375 H&H , and like others said the release tighten up really tight! But it holds its zero when remounted.
I would put EAW mounts if you want the best!
Good luck Dale Z

Not sure how they would work on a 458 but they have worked well on a 375Mag for me in the past.I know this opinion won't be popular, but I like the old-fashioned Weaver thumbscrew rings as well. They're a pain to mount the scope into, as they rotate the scope while you tighten them, but once you get it the way you want it they work well and they're quick-detach with no tools. Return to zero is certainly good enough for use on a .458. I just recently got a .458 on a Mauser action, and they don't offend my eye on that nice old gloss-blue gun...to me, they "look" just right. I have two low-power Leupold variables set up in the Weavers, and could switch them easily on a hunt if anything happened to one of the scopes. They've held up to probably about 100 rounds for the one scope, and about 160 for the other. Not an exhaustive test of course, but so far they seem promising.
What brand and or style is recommended for a quick detach scope mount for an older yugo Mauser in 458?
