There is one model I'm looking buying but wondered the twist of the barrel.

The Rem 700 sps tactical with a 20" barrel. The 16.5 has a 1:9 twist don't know about the 20" model. Since we can't have cans etc I figured the extra barrel length will serve me well.

Thoughts? A little help. Look for a 300 yard shooter might try 500 yards. Something I can get my round count up on. The other option is building a free floating upper with a heavy barrel for my ar.

Thanks guys I checked the website and it was a little hard to tell. I think I will like it better than the 16.5" Anyone use it off a bipod heard the Hogue stock prevents it from free floating with a bipod.

That's correct. You can open up the barrel channel a bit to reduce it, but your best bet is to grab an hs precision stock off the equipment exchange for 150 to 200 dollars. Dollar for dollar that's the biggest upgrade you can do to these rifles.

Agrree with 223submoa, the HS stock is a great upgrade for the money. You may also want to trade out the trigger, especially given Remington's recent recall. I only upgraded the stock, trigger and had an ATRS bolt handle installed on mine, shoots half inch groups with ease.

I have one of these rifles. I swapped out the trigger for a timney, and put it in a mcmillan A5 unbedded. Seems to show good results with varget and 77gr smks and 77gr custom competitions, also 70 gr vlds and 69gr smks. The sierra test loads grouped just under .5" 3 rounds at 100yds and the other slightly over. I need to do some more extensive testing but shows definite potential.

Been using my 20 inch off of a bipod for years... Floats like a Boat.
You mentioned want to try up to 500 yards with the 20 inch. It should be quiet achievable if you make quality reloads. Mine performed reasonably well at 600 yards on a hot Saskatchewan (at Nokomis) day using 62 Nosler Varmints and 25.5 Grn of Varget.
