Hello to all,

I am considering purchase of a Leupold scope with their Custom Dial System, however I am concerned about the dial moving when taking the rifle in and out of the gun case while out hunting...... is this an issue that I need to worry about?

I have a rifle with tactical turrets in which this is a problem.

Your practical experience using Leupold CDS scopes is very much appreciate.

Cheers for now,

Brentwood

The dial spins easily so you have to keep an eye on it. On the other hand there is a zero stop so it's not like you're going to get lost in your dial.

If you decide to move ahead with the CDS system have you considered:
How far you want to be able to shoot
Will you be collecting your own data
Handloads or factory
What is your accuracy like at 200ish yards from a shooting position.

These turrets are based off average velocities and factory claimed BC's. Leaves a lot of room for error and I wouldn't trust them much past 400 ish yards if you don't actually know your muzzle velocity and how it's affected by temperature or how density altitude affects a bullets flight path.

Just some thoughts if your thinking about going long range. I would suggest going with an moa turret and then the tools to gather info about pressure, temp and muzzle velocity in order to either make a drop chart for different pressure/temps or to plug into a ballistic program.

I did see someone show up at the range with this new set up only to be somewhat disappointed with the results which came from a combination of averaged factory BC claims and averaged muzzle velocities combined with average shooting skills.

I'm not trying to be rude and assume you're not aware of any of these things just sharing what I have seen and learned along the way

I have a vx3 cds 3.5-10x40 on my 6mm.Because I shoot different loads I had Leupold(Korth) make me a more detailed moa dial than what it came with. This way I can check my drops at known distances and make a reasonably accurate chart to tape to the rifle. This is for hunting purposes btw.I haven't had any issues with the turret dial moving, mine seems to stay put.It tracks well and the glass is good.
