Well, the fields are planted. So my long range fun is over till the fall, same goes for skeet and trap. The VZ58 has been getting a ton of attention. My savage FCP-SR has be fine tuned at 100. I am sick of blasting a dollar down the tube with the bolt gun to keep my marksmanship up. SO while in looking to get a mossburg590A1 I instead decided to pick up the Savage Mark II with a bull barrel. Came with a nice little optic. It doesn't seem to much to ask .5 moa from 50 with this little guy. Does and one have any experience with quiet or subsonic rounds in them ?

Well with out any more jiber jabber... My first 22... I think ill chuck a cheapo Bipod and have at it this weekend.

I have a bunch... they are great little guns and accurate right out of the gate... tweaked mine some, and enjoy shooting them when it is their turn.

I ll be interested to see how it goes for you! I was looking at one of these but opted for a CZ 453 Varmint instead because the accuracy reviews on these didn't seem to be 0.5moa. Hope yours is!

I bought the same package on Father's Day. It was 15% off at the time. The FVXP cost me around $230. Haven't got a chance to shoot it yet though, maybe this weekend.

I have one in laminate, 1/2" at 50 is 1 moa, so 1/2 moa is 1/4" at 50, I have had a few 1/4" groups, but for me (I'm no pro)1/2" 3-4 out of 5, 5 shot groups is common with CCI SV, I put a 6-18 trophy xlt that I originally bought for another project, but works very nice and isn't too much as it's mostly on the bench and prone. One thing I've noticed is that when trying different ammo types it can take a little while for the barrel to settle back down, I always shoot at least 50 rounds consecutively before deciding. Lead round nose typically are the best, any CCI LRN, Remington target, Sk standard+, are all good, federal and Winchester not so much

That was a typo. 0.5" at 50 is what I meant. And 4 out of 5 shots in 1/2" isn't a 1 MOA gun. Sorry. But they are a GREAT value and I'm glad you guys enjoy them!

I meant out of 5 different 5 shot groups most of the groups are under 1/2", I'm sure in hands better than mine it would do 1/2" all day. My last attempt at the challenge on here had me at .600" for my biggest group

Congratulation on the Mark II... I'm sure you'll love it. I had a Savage Mark II BTV which I liked a lot. Great little rifle, pretty accurate and good looking. Generally, I got about .5" groups at 50 yards with federal champion, shooting off a bipod with no back rest. LRN, I agree, appears best but I found that Winchester 40gr JHP wasn't too bad at 50 yards. Interestingly, my BTV absolutely hated CCI (any variety) for some reason.. I had constant extraction problems with CCI, and it wasn't as accurate as federal. Conclusion... try lots of different ammo. I have since sold both the BTV and a pimped out SKS that I had so I could afford to buy an Anschutz; I now use SK Standard or SK Rifle Match... while both are far from cheap their advantage is that they (1) have been available even through the North American 22LR shortage, (2) are very consistent, and (3) while about 4 times the cost of federal champion, are still a lot less expensive than truly high-end 22lr ammo like Eley, Lapua Midas+, or RWS100.

They are good guns. Mine gives me 1.5" 5 shot groups at 100m consistently with CCI Standard Velocity (and wind accounts for some of the 1.5").

I find the comb is low for me with the Savage plastic stocks, you may want some kind of riser to lift your chin 1/2" or so.

The Choate cheek riser works well with Savage synthetic stocks... the color matches perfectly and it mounts with a single screw, for easy on/off... and it is only a few bucks... Choate ships to Canada.

Yeah it seems like most guys replace the stocks on these pretty quick. I forgot I shot one of these about 2 years ago and was hitting a piece if angle iron at 100 3-4 out of 5 shots.

Good, solid rifles. I've got heavy-barrelled Savages in both .22LR and .22 Mag and find them to be fine shooting rifles. Congrats on your purchase!

I recently picked one of these up when wholesale sports had a sale, $188. Just the rifle and no scope. I bought a bunch of mags for it and tech sights. I am having a gunsmith drill and tap the barrel so that the front sight can be added on. I just really wanted a heavy barrel 22 with iron sights and this was an easy way of doing it. I should also test it out side by side with my CZ 455 Varmint to see which is more accurate.

The rifle may well be 1/2 MOA, but sometimes we shooters just may not be up to the task. :)

Haha, yea thanks everyone for the ammo input !!! Ill be putting it in a rifle rest to hold it perfectly still to make sure no shooter error. Then Ill see how I can do with bipod and back sand bags.

Using front sand and back sand bags with my 308 I can put together under 1 inch groups at 100. Im not to worried about the shooter not being able to hold up. lol

I paid about 350 for the package. Im going to buy a cheapo 20 dollar bipod and an extra mag or two. Should be a fun little critter getter.

Well took it out. Got it sighted in at 50, was great making half inch groups from bipod and rear sand bag. Moved back to 100 wow is it a different game at 100 with 22 ! Bullet drop is crazy so, I like it sighted for 50 so just did some hold off and fun reactive target plinking. Slapping a 2 inch wide and 6 in tall spring loaded target. Super fun !

Very impressed with the rifle, all thought the mag it came with is a 5 rounder. SFRC has 10 rounders for sale. Im sure my local shop has them aswell... Anywhere that has 15, 20 or 30 round mags for the savage mark 2 in 22. ?

My uncle picked up that same rifle/scope combo last year. Thing is a tack driver. I can't recall what ammunition we were using but the gun definitely liked it. Maybe CCI, it seems to me it was in those neat little plastic cases I love.
