After a time consuming polish of my Model 39 Cooey's barrel, I attempted cold bluing using G96 Gun Blue Cream, with poor, inconsistent results. Although it did work ok for screws and small parts, I'm not happy with the barrel.

Anyhow, I'd like to get the barrel hot blued, and emailed Brian at Accurate Actions.
I had plans to drop it off it in May, but life got busy for me and I didn't get back to him until earlier this month.
Suffice to say, he hasn't gotten back to me yet, which most likely means he's super busy and wont get to it for a while.

I was wondering, is there anyone else who does hot bluing in Calgary for reasonable prices?

Paying to have a Cooey blued will cost you more than the thing's worth. The trick to cold bluing(that's isn't really made for whole guns or barrels) is the degreasing. Any grease at all will wreck the bluing. Mind you, bluing is always dependent on the steel it goes on. Try another brand. Outers works well.

Buy some 40 weight oil. Heat the barrel to warm and dip it in the oil. You judge the heat by the way the oil blues the barrel.

The cost of hot bluing is 90% prep work. Polish it up yourself but remember what you see before bluing you will still see after, the quality of the job depends on the quality of your prep work. Phone around, some smiths still blue fairly often - I don't know the shops in Calgary, but I mail my stuff out for bluing.
