Hi Gentlemen,

I am considering purchasing my first rimfire rifle to save on ammunition costs and improve my general shooting. I am looking for a bolt action rimfire rifle in .22LR not too expensive (max around 600). I would like to put a scope on it, but hoping to be able to use irons as well. Currently have been looking at CZ's offerfings however am not really sure what the differences are between the different models but I believe the best bet would be 452 and 455 (however not sure which model of those). I am open to other suggestions if you guys have them :).

I am new to rimfire rifles and my choice was the CZ 452 Lux, it has great sights on it but my old eyes need some help. I added a Leupold VX-2 3-9 X 33mm Rimfire EFR scope.
I think the 452's have been discontinued in favour of the 455 models...don't know what the differences are but I am happy with the 452.

The 455's have the swappble barrel options........if'n you're so inclined.
There should be the odd new 452 around if you look long and hard 'nuff
at the site sponsors listings.
I sure know where I'd stick me noze.

I absolutely love my Zastava z5.... complete tack driver... I threw a Vortex diamondback 2-7 rimfire on it and it came in at around 600 complete....

Lots of people also like the Salvage MkII 22 lr. My vote would be the CZ. My personal CZ is a 452 V and its awesome, most of the different designations in CZ have to do with the type of barrel contour, stock design, and if they have sights or are for scopes only.

Dont discount older guns, it is hard to "shoot out" a 22 bolt gun...semi's yes. Check out the EE, dont completely discount used mossberg, marlin, or even cooey. The advantage of a good deal used is it allows you a decent scope. I am not a fan of 22 scopes, personally use big rifle scopes on my rimfires.

another vote for CZ. I have a 452 Varmint and its great. did some minor trigger work, and its very nice. Get a few more mags and a decent scope/rings and you are set.

also, 10/22s are great. they are the lego of the firearm world. you can do whatever you want, make it look like whatever you want, build it shoot it, make it tactical, sniper, bench rest etc etc etc. cheap parts everywhere.

CZ - More refined, nicer wood, smoother action until you break the Zastava in.....

Zastava - Some nice wood, but you have to pick and choose and still not as nice as the CZ (but the Zastava has checkering where the CZ American does not, you will have to go with the Lux for checkering), action not as smooth as CZ but 100 rounds or a 6 pack in front of the TV while working the action will take care of that.... Really nice iron sights... Oddly enough, some of the nicest blueing I have ever seen....

Both - Very accurate

CZ - $500+

Zastava - under $300

That's a great price point if the quality is there.. Do they have just one model?

I own a few .22LR rifles. Among them, CZ 455 Varmint, Zastava MP22, and NS 522.
The CZ is a great rifle but you'll get just the rifle for $600. The Zastava MP22 fit & finish is not as good as the CZ but at half the cost, it's a very good rifle for the money.
I bought the NS 522 about two months ago. The stock is for the EM332 but after cleaning the storage oil off, it's just as accurate as the CZ and Zastava. After I pillar, glass bed, did a trigger job (following the tips posted on this board), and use better ammo (Eley Practice), now it's the most accurate .22 rifle I own.

So if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, I would go with the NS 522. Otherwise I go with the Zastava MP22.

I purchased a CZ 455 Lux Supermatch .22LR earlier this year. I haven't put a round through the .22LR Supermatch barrel, but the 17HMR barrel kit i swapped out is a tack driver to 200 yards. The biggest difference you'll see between the 452 and the 455 is the length of pull on a .22LR chambered variant. Since the 455 is designed to swap barrels between 22LR, 22WMR, and 17HMR, the bolt always comes back far enough to clear the longer 22WMRand 17HMR rounds. I was a little concerned about the accurancy of the rifle, considering that the barrel is designed to be removed, however if you torque the 2 retaining screws down to spec it doesn't move at all.

Also, with either the 452 or 455, make sure to put together an extra $18 for the yodave trigger kit. It's worth every penny.
