I have an acquaintance with a lapsed rpal and 1 hand gun. He let his licence expire, and wants me to buy his handgun (for a good price). It's the only gun he owns and he will not be getting any more. Is there an issue when he calls to initiate the transfer? He was considering turning it in at the police station, but would rather get something for it. Will it bring him any trouble?

DO NOT BRING IT TO THE POLICE STATION...you'll be amazed at how lacking the cops are in humor when it comes to walking into the station with a hand gun.

Wouldn't the CFO jump all over the poor guy with the expired PAL in this case? Isn't that openly admitting and essentially walking around with an "arrest me" tattoo on his forehead? I'm sure some have had success, but I'd be scared to do it.
it's best for all parties involved to just transfer the ownership sooner rather than later.
My father's Pal expired for 10 years, he had "blue paper" registration paperwork. When I called the Cfc, I want to transfer his restricted to myself. They had no idea he even had it. I gave them the serial number the legal description, 2 hours later the "ghost gun" was in my name and I was taking it home with a same day att.
They want these guns transfered to "properly licenced people" and make it happen.

A friend sold me three restricted handguns with an expired PAL. When he called the Firearms Centre, he was told that he had to surrender them for destruction. After a few more phone calls and some convincing argument on his part, he was told to renew his PAL so that they would complete the transfer. He was in Alberta and I am in BC. My BC guys were great. His guys were not. Not saying who was right or who was wrong - this was just my personal experience.
I have a similar offer presented to me but with a prohibited twist. An old shooting buddy of mine let everything lapse. He owned two wheel guns at the time. One is a S&W model 19 with 4" barrel and the other is a detective special with a 2 inch barrel. I know the detective special is a prohib. Is the 4" as well because its not a 4.1?
I lost my prohib by not renewing so cant "collect" these two beauties but dont know what to tell him. Any prohib registered owners out there want to save two beautiful wheel guns before they get turned into a new honda?

Both are 12(6) prohibs.
I'm sure that one of the 12(6)s here will be willing to take them if the price is fair for the condition that they are in.

If destroying firearms is your thing that is, I'm more inclined to clean and oil them
^ oh, why didn't it come to me earlier? Most folks have a safety deposit box...take it to the bank, and put it in the safety deposit box for safe keeping!? Way better than the local Precinct.
