How rare is Soviet 7N1 Sniper Ammo?

Recently I acquired about 460rds of 7.62x54R about 12 boxes were brown paper redish marked. 11 boxes were brown waxed paper tied up. Did some research brown waxed was 182grn heavy ball ammo and the brown paper was 7N1 sniper ammo. How rare is that stuff?

188/97 would be the right stamp for the 7N1. It's good ammo, should shoot pretty well.

It's OK ammo. The quality control was better than the standard surplus. My understanding is that it was designed for the Drugnov / SVD rifles.
When you read the reviews, it is definitely decent 7.62x54r ammo - but it's not the holy grail.
I think it holds more of a collector value than anything.

If it has value above regular ammo, I'd sell it. Otherwise it would be too tempting to just shoot the stuff.

I bet a lot of this will be available some day, whenever the USSR... er... Russia and friends retires the SVD for something new, whenever that happens.

It's more accurate then regular ammo but its not match ammo. It was designed to be more lethal then regular ball ammo. It has a half steel and half lead core that will destabilize itself and tumble when it hits something.

Im gonna take the opened box with a couple missing and test it out with a PU sniper. Compare it with the other batch.

I cannot use the 7N1 ammo at my range, ban on steel core. People around here think its run of the mill surplus ammo. Offering me 10$ a box or 2 boxes of 7N1 for a box of 9mm. Plus did a quick quote from Can Par, be about 34$ just to ship a box, to who wants to collect it.
