Just Bought a Rossi 12 gauge with the rifled barrel. At just over 3 feet in overall length, what a weapon!! Was shooting today at 75 yards and hitting about 6 inches high. Need to site it in!!LOL
My question is has anyone ( who has or who does ) own one ever put the scope on one, and how did they like it. I think it will make a great bush gun , short, great feeling in your hands kinda , gun.
Can I have it tapped for a choke system, or will that ruin the performance of the gun , when I want to shot slugs. (I know I'd have to take the choke out and put a "blank" piece in)
Also has anyone tried the calibre insert ( the long ones ,9 plus inches that have the rifling) to change to 9mm, 410 etc.
Cheers
Brian

For starters never run shot through a rifled barrel two yes you can mount a scope three caliber inserts are ok but your using the wrong gun for it and four NEVER RUN SHOT THROUGH A RIFLED BARREL ONLY PROPER SABOT SLUGS

There are full bore slugs designed for rifled barrels. You don't have to use just sabots. I shoot brenneke gold 3" mags and challenger slugs out of mine and they are incredibly accurate. I've shot bird shot out of my barrel. It does not hurt the barrel. It does provide horrible patterns however.
The rossis can be drilled and tapped for a scope. I would not recommend adding chokes it will serve no purpose.

Most chamber inserts use a O ring to seal in a rifled barrel they will not effectively seal and gas will blow back

Thanks for the reply, just bought some 3" winchester 500 grain slugs on the weekend, I think there called XRP....or something like that. And did install a scope. I bore sited it with the scope, just to get it on paper. And well....the first shot didn't go as planned.....pulled the trigger and felt a burning sensation just above and to the left of my left eye. For the first time in 25 plus years of using all kinds of rifles, shotguns etc, I had scope kiss!!! myself!!!! Well feeling inbearused, I wiped the blood from my face and walked in the house to take care of it.
I'm taking the scope off, and trying to come up with a different setup. I really wanted the scope, but I guess the 500 grain, 2000 fps slug where just too much for me!! With 0 drop @ 100yard they were just what I was looking for. I'm looking at maybe a red dot or something like that...Any suggestions would be great. I really like the little Rossi, and will find something that will work on her.

You need a scope with lots of eye relief, I shoot a Mossberg 935 with 3" Remington slugs with no issues using a Leupold M8 4X scope with about 4" of eye relief.

I think the OP is using the 300gr XP3 at 2000 fps advertised, either way the recoil would be impressive and eye relief critical.

Yep that's what they are , was out of town working when I posted, a very nice round. The box reads 3.9 inch drop @ 150 yds. has anyone ever put them to the test.
Hunter5425 I'll look into the scope your using. Do you think the Rossi, with the shorter barrel would kick/lift a little harder?
Thanks again for the replies!! My eye is feeling up to another round , this weekend.....ding, ding round two. LOL
I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers
Brian

The Rossi is lighter than my 935 and will kick harder so you might want to try 2.5 inch slugs. I use 3" Remington 385 gr bonded slugs and they shoot flat enough out to 150 yards to do the job and are close to the advertised ballistics but are a bit slower than it says on the box.

Just bought a new scope!!! It's a Nikon Slug Hunter.3-9x40 has a 5" eye relief, should work great.
Going to get it mounted this weekend and give it a try with the 300 grain slugs.
