I'm looking to buy a scope for my Savage 11 chambered in .243. Currently I have a Weaver 3-9x40 scope on it, buy I would like an upgrade. I want something that has a higher variable zoom. I looked at the BSA sweet .243 scope, I thought it was pretty neat because it has the bullet grain dials which are very helpful when you're doing long range shooting. Any suggestions?

If you want target turrets in MOA, go Sightron Bigsky II with the LRMOA reticle - awesome value and superb resolution. If you plan on quick holdover shots, go Burris Fullfield II 4.5x14x42, which they don't make anymore but you can still find new. The Burris glass is amazing and the BDC reticle is perfect for hunting (targets too). Expect to pay $850 and $350 respectively.

I have the above Sightron on 3 of my rifles (a .243, 6mm cousin and .270) and the Burris on my 22-250 and other 6mm - very happy with each. Of course you should ask yourself what the scope will be used for - I have taken my best personal shot with the Burris at 14X at 450 yds at a woodchuck - second is 330 yds with the Burris yet on another woodchuck. So if you're hunting anything larger, the 14x is all you will need given your rifle is shooting accurately with your chosen load/reload. I went with the Sightron 6.5x20 with target turrets to reach beyond my present limits and I know it will take me there, the resolution (target separation) is amazing.

There are a number of different manufacturers that offer scopes in your price range or just slightly more. Nikon, Vortex, Bushnell, Redfield, Burris etc. It is unlikely that they will include a custom turret like the BSA. However they typically will offer a bdc reticle which may suit your needs. It is best to narrow down what features your looking for, i.e. types of turrets, reticles, length, weights etc, then check specs and reviews for feedback. I recently purchased a Vortex Crossfire II 6–18x44 AO which I've only had out once so far sighting in, but it performed well. A side focus AO would be more user friendly but was more $$.

BTW, Burris has a $100 rebate on the previously mentioned Fullfield II, so I image they've dropped them and are clearing them out. If you buy one at Lebaron you can save another 15% right now if your a member. $195 if your comfortable with a mail-in rebate.

Redfield 4-12 , not all the fancy bells and whistles but a no nonsense quality scope that will last.

Add features and trinkets , your scope quality will go down.

You won't be able to do the adjustments that you speak of but you will have a repeatable scope that you can learn with until you can upgrade.

14x is actually quite a bit for many applications.

They are really nice scopes, but my price range is 0-300.
