As most owners of the NS522 know, extra magazines for these guns are very, very rare, and they are expensive once you do find them. On top of that, they don't work very well, especially after considerable usage. Some folks have inquired about making magazines to fit these guns, but I am of the opinion that it would be considerably easier to fashion the single shot adapter. The single shot adapter is even harder to find than the mags, so here are a few pictures of one, along with my hand-drawn diagram. The adapter is 1 3/4 inches tall (top to bottom), 1 5/32 inches long (front to back), 15/32 inches wide (side to side), and there is a slot in the front for the mag catch. This slot is 23/32 inches from the top (top of mag to upper edge of slot), 29/32 inches from the bottom (bottom of mag to lower edge of the slot); the slot itself is 3/32 inches tall (top to bottom), and it is 1/8 inches deep. The very top of the adapter is grooved to help a single loaded cartridge feed easier, and the groove tapers back to front (ie, it is wider at the back). I almost always shoot my 522s with the s/s adapter. [Note: in the diagram I've included, the "B" measurement is from the bottom of the mag to the center of the groove in the top. This is probably best seen in the third picture down. Also, as to the different views of the magazine, Pic 1 is from the left side of the mag; Pic 2 from the front; Pic 3 from the rear; and Pic 5 is from directly above the mag.]

Have you made one of these?
No. One came with my NS-522. Opinions differ as to whether or not any of these were ever made by Norinco, but I've got one (and, no, I'm not the original owner of the 522 in question, so I don't for sure where it came from).

That's really nice, I made one that slides in the actual mags out of delrin but it's causing extraction issues... Will probably try this one when I have more spare time!

The British Lee enfields had a plate attached to the reciever that could be pushed back and enabled single rounds to be loaded ,something like that would be ideal

isn't it better/easier to chamber load?
yes, it is, if we get an adapter/ plate of some sort to go over/replace the mag. Today when I was just chamber loading single shot the round kind f fumbled amongst the mag lips! A nice plate with a groove to guide it would be good! She sure shoots well though, cannot wait till I smooth things out and pillarand glass bed it!

Inspired by Minimouse's thread, I made 2 adapters with wood which work perfect in my NS522. But I just made them only the top part of it, so the adapter can go inside the clip like a cartridge. It took me half an hour to fit the first one, and the second one only 15 minutes.

How 'bout some pics?

Unless you are in the US military.... :) It's still inches and feet where I work in Canada even though I was one of the first generations to learn metric in school.....The influence of the US's stubborn refusal to change is felt in North America.
Minimouse, any chance you can post the dimensions that are cropped out of the photo?
