Mounted a Bushnell Trophy 3x9 on a .243 BLR using Weaver mounts and rings. When I tried to bore sight I had to crank the elevation turret almost all the way up. Had the same issue a few years ago when I mounted that scope on a marlin lever. Is this scope defective or what in the hell is going on??

I tried to scope my old Marlin using the proper Weaver base and it wouldn't line up at all.

Gave up and put a receiver sight on.

you need to shim the bottom rear scope ring with thin metal
or i use thin strips of a margarine tub

google 'shim a rifle scope'

You should never shim a scope ring, that reduces the inner diameter of the ring and can easily damage a scope as you end up compressing a 1 inch scope tube in a ring that is smaller. If you need to shim anything it should be between the base and the action.

there lies you answer
take no notice of my posting.

I've used small pieces of aluminum pop cans for scope shims before. NEVER inside the rings tho....always under the bases. Watch the length of your base screws if you add more than one shim.....they may " pull out " the top few threads on the receiver.
Another thought... both were lever action rifles...due to its design,.....could that possibly be the elevation problem ?

You need to purchase an angled rail to mount the rings to. If you check with the distributor or manufacturer they can recommend what angle of rail to purchase based off of the sight you will be using. The angled rail essentially will start you off with an elevation plane that the scope can be zeroed with and still adjust for more elevation. Hope this helps, this is what a lot of tactical and military rifles need in order to achieve elevation for longer range shooting.

Cheers
