This might be a dumb question but why aren't the cases supplied with new pistols thick enough to accommadate a trigger lock? I now have one Browning and one Grand Power lockable case that are basicly useless. I know at least some US states (NY for sure) require trigger locks for transport so why don't the manufacturers make the supplied cases an inch or so thicker to accomadate the lock?

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm assuming because most guns/cases are made in the US, or for the US, where trigger locks are not mandatory, they're making the cases to adhere to the bare minimum of the law in their largest market. Making a case slightly bigger costs slightly more. My Ruger MK III case was basic plastic, no foam, and didn't even have a hole big enough for a padlock to close the case. My SR 1911's "case" was a cardboard box.

I do agree it'd be nice to get cases that I can get more use out of though. I mean I can't do a thing with the cases for my MK III, or CZ 75... they're not big enough for transport or I can't quite lock them. The case I got with my DES 69 is nice, but the interior is just packing foam that's breaking apart and I didn't even get the key for the case locks, so I can't even lock the dumb thing.

Depends on the style of trigger lock you use. Some fit, some don't. Cable locks fit fine in most. Also, this is Canada. Other countries don't have these regulations and these cases are not built just for Canada.

 Sorry, I don't understand your question. Pistols have to be trigger locked and locked in case for transport right?

Correct: Trigger locks hardly fit and secure most pistols well enough as it is..

The cases that are supplied with pistols are minimum at best, with thin padding if at all as mentioned, it is the reason most folks just put them aside and buy a suitable gun case that protects the firearm and can be locked properly.

Trying to get a standard from manufacturers on something they really try to eliminate is a lost cause.

As others have said, it's due to the manufacturers playing to a bigger market that doesn't require trigger locks (most of the U.S.).

That being said, spend a little coin and get a good case that holds multiple handguns. (Or the cheap tool case from Canadian Tire that I use, $20 on sale). It gets annoying carrying several cases every time you go to the range.

Yeah, I have a small sort of box, like for an ATV. It can be locked, and I have pistol socks. I just lock the pistols, put them in socks, and dumb them all in the atv box. I can transport like 6 of them in the box. Or 1-2 guns with a bunch of ammo. And it has a removable tray where I store magazines, couple of tools, and all the paperwork.
