1-4 Scopes, What does everyone use? Good, bad, and ugly

Money no object: ($2000 plus)
S&B Short Dot
Swarovski Z6i
Elcan Specter DR

Specter DR is the cheapest of all 3. ShortDot & Z6i are $3k+ and $2800 plus a decent mount which will cost you at least $150.

Z6i looks nice but it's likely be heavier given it's a 1-6x. Then there's the S&B & Leupold's 1-8x........ those are truly money no object!!!

Optic is one of 3 most important elements in a rifle. Good optics, good trigger and a good free-float barrel.

cannot go wrong with specter dr, you just cant! glass comparable to swarovski, bullet drop, red dot, fast switch from 1 to 4, crosshair, illumination, unbeatable.
expensive but the best!

Anyone, ANYONE suggesting anything else has not tried one.

...or for the same money you can buy TWO Colt LE6920's.

TR24G without a doubt best bang for your buck! Have 2 of them, hoping Trijicon come out with a 1-6 or 1-8 version

I really wish trijicon would offer greater reticle choice in their 1-4 line of accupoints. If they incorporated their reticles from their ACOG line into the accupoint line I would be happy as a pig in ####.

This!
I hated the flaming triangle on stick thing they passed as a reticle. loved the eye relief, but that reticle was a sticking point.

I found myself keeping my optic on 4x more than anything, so just ended up buying an acog.

And different reticles. It's the only thing I dislike about them.

The VCOG should've been a winner, but I can't get beyond them not have the fibre illumination on it.....

Some BDC lines below the Chevron would be nice for long range but 100 meters and in I think its great the way it stands now. Roughly 2-4 moa at the tip and 16moa at the bottom of the chevron I believe so once you wrap your head around that and know your ammo your good to go.

bought this used on the EE, pretty happy with it although I have nothing to compare it against. illuminated reticle, first focal plane. US product, don't know if you can get it imported or not.

Had that scope for a while, loved it, and regret selling it. Superb glass and awesome reticle.

Ben, I was the one who sold him the scope on the EE, and I had originally bought it new from your friend OICU812 over the EE. I will vouch for what Ben said about the superb glass and great reticle, it is a top quality scope. It unfortunately didn't have the magnification that I needed, so I ended up selling it to ren666.

Great suggestions, should have specified, was trying to stay close to or under the $1000 mark. And am dead set on something that will go to a true 1x on the bottom.

The Shortdot, Elcan, and Mark 6 are amazing scopes, but way out of my price range at the moment. Not to mention the Elcan weighs as much as the AR. Lol

Actually, they're all nearly just as heavy once you add a good mount to the tube. I've had a Nightforce compact and now have a Mark 6, and they both add a lot of weight to a AR. I don't think an Elcan felt any heavier at all.

Love the reticle, clarity is amazing, very well built, value is exceptional.

Sorry but my Hilux from wolverine was complete junk, okay glass horribly built..... The o-ring inside the glass was accross the middle of the eye piece. Atleast Wolverine was good about refunding, but quality you gota be kidding took me 3 seconds to see the massive defect, their quality control obviously sucks

I got a leupold mark-AR 1.5-4 power x 1" Tube inside an ADM recon QD mount. Awesome! The leupold is crystal clear and 1.5 power is great even at inside the house distances. It's SUPER light, the mount is heavier than the scope but still very light combined. The best thing: price. I bought the leupold a year or two ago, from wolverine (I think) and it was 275$ NEW! And the mount I got from brownells for 280$

i just bought a colt le6920, and I'm thinking of either buying another elcan spectr dr for it or putting my browe 4x on it.
My question is, if i put a 4x scope on it, will the front sight post gas block be a problem?

The triangle is one mil in height at 4x and 4 mils at 1x. Its workable for longer range out to 400 but a graduated reticle would make it far more useable. Something like their horseshoe reticle from the acog line would be perfect. Spinning knobs isn't an option.

The fsb at 1x is a blur at the bottom the optic, its not an issue.
