Hi all, I just purchased a 75 rd AK drum mag from I Run Guns. Before the RCMP descend on my house, I want to add that it is properly pinned to 5 rds, as per Canadian law.
I have been watching YouTube to figure out how to load it. The videos all show actual 75 rd drum mags in the US. It says to press the center button to release the spring tension. No problem. Then turn the innards till they stop - of course, it only turns about 4/5 ths of a revolution till the cross pin hits the rivet. I then load 5 rounds into the tower and close the back up. This is the way to store it. The videos then say to wind the key on the back of the drum to get the tension in the spring. In the "unwound" state, the round in the very top of the tower rattles loosely.
I tried winding it and feeding it into my SKS D, but the rounds don't feed properly.
I opened the back, and to prove what an idiot I am, I stuck my finger in to try to move the rounds - at which point the spring tension snapped and slammed my finger between internal pointy parts (note - don't do this - it hurts).

Can anyone tell me the proper way to load the 5 rd drum mag so it feeds properly into a rifle? Or is this mag just for looks ??

Thanks all,
Mike C

Load the 5 into the top then wind it up just a bit until you have tension. Then wind it just a bit more.

Note, you have to wind it up a bit to begin with to take tension off of the feed dummy rounds in there first.
