284 or 280 AI??

Can you hit a 9" pie plate every time at 4-500 yards? Most cartridges are not made for those distances anyway. And you need to look into the ballistics. A 139 grain .280 Rem drops 43.1" at 500 and has insufficient energy for either deer, sheep or elk.

280 AI can EASILY shoot a 139-140 gr bullet at 3150+ fps so sighted in at 300 yards it would only be a bit over 24 " low at 500 YDS and it would have more then enough energy to KILL deer - sheep -elk - moose with lung shots ! It would still have around 1450-1500 ft lbs of energy at that range (500 YDs) ! RJ

Heck even my 260AI still has 1570 ftlbs at 500 yards first round hits every time on a 6 inch plate. I always enjoy Sunray's posts! I think I may try it deer hunting this year!
I think I may need to build a 280AI big brother in a lighter hunter!
