I took my new K100 Mk7 to the club's indoor range for the first time last night. I let an exerienced shooter who owns a ton of different guns give it a try (he let me shoot his Sig 229 in .40) and he was quite favourably impressed. His comments were " seems well made"..."shoots well" and "it's a keeper". I was surprised a little bit that most people I showed it to had never heard of them. All the comments by people who handled it were positive. I think if they were more widely available you might see a lot more of them around.

When was this? Grand Power have been quite successfull in Europe and even the Canadian Grand Power IPSC team don't seem to be having any problems that I am aware of.
Really? I thought one of their claims to fame was how widely they are used in IPSC in Europe.
There were three areas of concern, particularly with the STI branded guns.
1) The STI supplied hammers were initially made of a steel that was too hard and not ductile enough. STI EDM'd them to look like an STI product, and supplied them for assembly at Grand Power. While the machined GP hammers were lasting 50-100K, the first STI hammers were failing in 5K. A switch to a more suitable steel fixed the problem.
2) Prior to 2008, our slides were CNC machined investment castings. Some slides in 2008 cracked in the center frame rail area. In two cases, those cracks were preceded by a double charge blowing a case. Our solution was to CNC all slides from bar stock.
3) A number of users were a little to vigorous in their disassembly technique. Some were pulling the trigger guard straight down without popping it forward first, and cracked the polymer grip at the hole. (They were overstressing the frame at that point.) Others were thinking that the trigger guard was hinged, and tried to pull it down too far, cracking the grip at the mag catch area. (We switched to a takedown lever in 2012)

The P40 is the same 108mm barrel. The P40L is 127mm.
They are also available in .357 Sig and 10mm auto, and the P45/P45L are the same guns chambered in .45 acp.
They should be in Canada by October.
The steel frame and most of the small parts are common between the two grip sizes.
The larger grip does not have the replaceable back straps. The wider .45 ACP based magazine didn't really allow it.
However, the grip circumference is almost identical.
