Went to the range and shot some classics the other day - a Luger and S&W 455. These are collectors and rarely get used.

The luger was a tone of fun. Shot about 100 rounds. Can't say i was too accurate with it (4-5 inch at 15 yr - which is a reflection of the shooter not the gun), but it worked flawlessly.

The 455 was interesting too but didn't want to use too much hard-to-find ammo. Seemed pretty good at 10-15 yrds or so (i'm sure it is not meant to be used beyond that). Might have to do a comparison with a Webley the next time around.

Anyway, gave me a new appreciation for how interesting and fun some of these classics are. and that all this stuff is not as much fun if you don't and can't use it ;-)

"There is no school like old school..." Very cool guns. Sounds like you need to reload for the .455.

I have a few guns that I don't shoot because I have others that are the same and have been shot.
What kind of ammo are you using in your Luger? Is it a Prohib. or a rebarrel or an American Eagle also what is the DOM of that one?

It's a prohib from 1917. I was shooting it with basic 115 gr UMC jacketed ammo.

Luv the Luger!....but I'm not allowed to own such a scary HG so got something similar(in looks at least)
Enjoy your prohibs... you guys make me sick:)

Yes I shoot it every now and then but for some reason the last round stovepipes, that is why I was asking about ammo.
I need to work on the sights because under recoil they ramp up a notch or two so I have to reset them every shot.
I didn't notice this at first so I would be at 7 meters and the sights would creep up to 100+ meters and of course I would totally miss the target, Started to think what a POS can't even hit the target at 7 meters, anyway there is hope for it if I can figure out a fix that won't harm the gun.

I'm no expert, but maybe a stronger spring in the slider lock (on the sights)? Failing that, I imagine some reshaping would be involved... I fired a standard P08 that had been re barreled to restricted length a few weeks ago. Slick little unit. A little more snap than I was expecting. I'd definitely pick one of these up if they weren't so gosh darned expensive...

I've a S & W 2nd model 455 ( handmade brass ) and it will shoot very accurately at 50 paces. Now the power would indubitably be quite depleted at that range...but it shoots!
It's is without a doubt the most accurate of my assorted handguns.

Good to know (and surprising for a bullet going 650 ft/sec). But hey, in another thread there is a guy hitting a 100 yd gong with 38 spec, so maybe my preconceived notion about what is needed to shoot accurately at range needs to be adjusted.

If I can find more ammo (unlikely to reload any time some) I'll have to experiment at longer distances. As long as it makes a hole in the paper that is all that matters.
