My sub sonics go cracking

Bought a whole bunch to try, anything labelled 1050 fps subsonic is going with a sonic crack out of my 19inch barrel lever rifle. The sub800 fps are fine but they make squat for muzzle energy

Are there any good 1000fps 40+grain 22 rimfire ammo?

I use remington Subsonics out of my CZ 453 Varmint (21" barrel) and it's nice and quiet. Eley ammo is nice and quiet too although more expensive and since Eleys aren't hollow points they might not do enough damage to a coyote

SV (standard velocity) ammo isn't always 'quite' ... maybe pick up some 'shorts', 'CB', or 'quite' ammo usually about 710fps

Isn't that backwards? Speed of sound increases with temperature it's 1081 fps at freezing and 1140 at room temp. True humidity affects it and its right humid today

Is it because of micro grooving not holding the bullet back?

I sorta disagree with that. Should be the other way around. Speed of sound lowers with the lower temp.

Get a longer barrel. Out of my 452 lux subsonic ammo is quieter then a pellet gun always

Micro-groove gas nothing to do with it. I've never seen an increased velocity chrony reading from any of my marlins. I'd have to guess humidity also.

Yeah. Cold crack.

This....with the ball powder used, temp will affect how fast it burns.

How much snow was on the ground? Snow will dampen a lot of the sound, especially if it is fresh and powdery. I have a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun with a C-lect and side ported barrel, when I shoot that thing anytime when there is no snow on the ground the blast is deafening and ringing in the ears. If there is soft snow on the ground, it's just a mildly loud thud and no ringing whatsoever.

No its around 1100 depending where in the world you are. Subsonic ammo is usually 1050fps.

I find most is advertised around 1080fps. But a lot of match stuff is switching to around 1030fps because of biathlon.

Well - Your 1050 fps cartridges have a subsonic bullet, but the propelling gasses are supersonic, hence the noise. The CB loads (~700 fps) are very quiet, given the lower gas velocity. I use them for squirrel duty.

Hence why I need a cz452 type 28 inch barrel on my 10/22
