Remington 870 with Mesa LEO stock...this ever happen to you?

Hey guys...so I just installed my Mesa LEO stock kit onto my 870 with 18.5" barrel, and bead sight. Everything's tight, and installed properly. Only thing is that now, I can't mount the shotgun properly to acquire a good sight picture. With the standard 870P stock, sight picture is perfect. With the Mesa setup, I'm seeing the entire top of the barrel, along with the sight base...no good, as this will cause me to shoot way too high.

Any of you guys who have run this mod have this issue? I'm completely aware of what is causing this condition, but I'm interested to know what resolutions have been found to remedy this. I was thinking of installing a set of Wilson Combat Scattergun sights, but was hoping to hear from a few of you first.

I know that I could simply revert back to the factory stock, but I really want to run the LEO as I enjoy the M4/AR feel that it provides...so a bit of feedback before I do so would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, I'm no expert but isn't this why most shotguns with similar stocks have beads on raised pedestals or similar? Raise the front sight so that the bore points a little bit down so you won't be shooting high?

Pretty much , with the mesa leo stock I couldn't get the cheek weild I needed for a good line of sight with the bead , the GRS are higher .
POA-POI seems to be more what ammo it likes.
 
Ghost rings go well with the Mesa LEOs. Both mine have them.

go long with the 6 position stock and see if that helps
that said the leo stock is to be used wit ha raised bead or Wilson combat style stocks or factory iron sights
plain bead does not work well.
if ou want to stay with a bead, buy a XS big dot/ fat dot sight that glues over the factory bead.

Thanks, bud. I like the way both of them look on your guns. I still think that I'm leaning more towards the Wilson Combats, though.

In your opinion, does one set up have a major advantage over the other? Or does it simply come down to personal preference as to which brand to go with?

The Wilsons are nice because they are lower profile (they aren't winged) and a lower price point. Their drawback is that adjusting them is a bit fiddly, because of the locking teeth mechanism and the allen screw they use. I've made the mistake of taking out the screw too far, and it is annoying to have to rethread it on the gun because there is a free floating plate in the sight base, so you effectively need to do it upside down if you want to leave the base on the gun while doing it [I hope that made sense]. If you have a pattern/slug load that you are going to stick with, I'd say go with the Wilsons, because adjusting them often is less of an issue.

The Vangcomp sights are winged, so they aren't as streamlined. The adjustments are finer by L/R and up/down Philips screws, so if you use different loads or plan to adjust them more often, or tend not to be careful with screws like me on the Wilsons, they are a better pick. They have the option of an integral rail in case you decide to mount an optic. But they cost a lot more. Wilsons are the best bang for your buck, but if I was choosing without the price tag, the Vang sights would win.
 
Thanks brother...I understand completely what you mean about the Wilson sights. Your explanation of both sight systems is pretty much bang-on what I was looking for. I think I'm gonna stick with my original idea and go with the Wilsons. I'm not gonna mix up my ammo selection all that much, so I should be able to tailor the gun so that it works with a couple loads (slugs/shot) reasonably well without having to always adjust the sights.
