Anybody know why there is a sticky on the EE banning IVI ammo? Was there a bunch stolen or something?
It says posts will be removed + the poster could be banned from the board for such adds ! I'm just curious. This is news to me ! I realize it's military ammo , but there is lots of other military ammo on there including all the Dominion stuff , thats basicaly the same thing , just older. Isn't it?

IVI ammo is not to be sold or distributed to the public; it is government property. If a civilian has IVI ammo it has to have been acquired through illegal means (stolen, black market, etc.) or someone in the military/government not following protocol (leaving it at a public range, forgetting it somewhere, giving it to a friend, etc.).

I've read here that it is illegal for anyone to sell IVI ammo but no one can point to an actual law prohibiting it. The issue is us civilians are not supposed to have any of it to start with. Once it's in our possession the cat is out of the bag and the government can't really do too much about it other than maybe confiscate it and/or ask where we got it. By banning it's sale on the countries largest private buy/sell forum it can really hinder those who are stealing it or trying to sell it against military regulations. If you are limited to local face-to-face meets it reduces the price you can get, reduces your possible customers, and makes it a lot easier to catch you.

*edit*
Forgot... IVI ammo of a certain date is perfectly fine to possess and sell as the government used to sell off surplus ammo. I think the date is in the 1990's maybe? I forget. Ammo made after a certain year is not supposed to be outside of government control. It's easier to just ban everything though as, honestly, there aren't mountains and mountains of the old stuff left.

Not true. At one time the Gov't gave out tons of IVI and DA before IVI to the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association. This ammo was downloaded to the Provincial Rifle Association to use for competition. Once the Gov't ammo grant dried up in the early 90's everyone went to handloaded ammo. There is still some DA and IVI kicking around that is perfectly legal to own. Once it was issued to DCRA the Gov't didn't want it back.

Read my entire post; I mention that ammo prior to a certain year is okay to have/own/sell.
