Took my Colt Canada/Diemaco C8 to the range today PICS ADDED PLUS VIDEO

Canadian Colts don't make mistakes, theres always an objective...;)

Seriously though on every account I've found the new owner has claimed they come mounted backwards from the factory...

They've made a few rifles before now, I would have thought.

In some photos, there looks to be a factory-installed short section of rail under the elevated front sight assembly so a popup sight could be installed instead. Is that the case or is it just hopeful thinking?

I had always thought it was on backwards so that *theoretically* you could mount the Elcan over the BUIS?

Possibly to do with the Elcan. The issued BUIS for the C7/C8 sits in front of the scope and this particular Troy BUIS does the same thing. I ultimately put the BUIS on my rifle in front of the Elcan3.0OS scope in a backwards config as it fit best this way, providing the longest possible sight radius (we are talking like an inch difference if I have it mounted forward.

Could also be that the person putting the BUIS on wanted the logo pointed at the user? No clue.

if you mean the sling ya man i couldnt figure that out it was all a mess and i wasnt in the forces so i guessed ..lol..and yes i have ear plugs in you cant see them im half deaf anyways...the rear sight was mounted that way when it came also if thats what you mean by bius...its off now with an Elcan installed will see how that works ..cant wait till next range day

I saw you were wearing ear plugs. My point is that is inadequate protection, especially indoors. To protect what hearing you still have, wear ear muffs. I often wear both.

BCM has a pretty authentic looking triad mount, if you really want one that looks like the CF issued version.

Okay, makes sense for a variable power optic like your Elcan. My instinct would be to place the BUIS on the rail closest to the charging handle.. it flips down so you can mount an optic infront of it.

Suugest you wear earmuffs, especially indoors. Sound through the bones will cause damage.

When I shot in an indoor pistol range regularly I used plugs and muffs just to put more protection on top of my ear canal but I was just wondering about your comment. How would muffs stop sound that is coming in through the bones?

I don't even mount rear BUIS anymore. I couldn't remember when it was the last time I used the BUIS.

This. Modern optics are very reliable, maybe keep something like a Magpul BUIS in your kit to finish the mission / match in case your optic is unexpectedly trashed but the idea of switching to a back up sight under match or combat conditions seems a bit unlikely.

If conditions permit a spare upper with optic mounted and sighted makes a lot more sense, or even a spare rifle.

COLT CANADA C8 CARBINE, SOME MINOR OBSERVATIONS. Picked up my Colt Canada carbine this past week from CSC in Calgary. Did some comparisons to what I used in the forces and also reference in Black Rifle 2. Noticed the rear BUIS was indeed mounted backwards with the Colt logo facing the muzzle, I assume this is done so one can use the smaller aperture for more precise shooting as the sight does not lay flat with the larger aperture folded down the idea been to leave the small aperture up. Second point is that the bolt carrier is not an M-16 carrier it is a tad shorter on the bottom end, longer than an AR-15 but shorter than the M-16, compared it to an original Diemaco carrier I have. The bolt carrier is marked CC not with a Devteck "D", bolt is MPD marked. Barrel is the correct configuration as seen on the C8FTHB, it is marked CC with a batch number similar to Diemaco with MP, no Devteck "D". Upper receiver has "CC" and a batch or casting number on the right rear rather than the stylized "D" and Wilson forge marks, it has the Cerro Forge key. Lower has the Cerro Forge making by the right side of pistol grip. Maple leaf is much smaller than the CF one, this may be their export or factory size non CF roll mark also no bilingual Fabrique au Canada under the Made in Canada. Just some minor observation though. Beautiful rifle, nicely finished, I love it, just a few differences that come to notice. Hitting the range this weekend, should shoot like a lazer given previus Diemaco experience.
