Africa 2014

There is no waste in Africa..........even the guts go back to camp and are dumped in a drum and sold to be made into fertilizer............that is what the camp staff don't take and eat. The bones are saved, after they are cooked over a fire and cracked for their marrow and sold for bone meal...........nothing is wasted in Africa. Two days after I shot my elephant there was just a stain left in the sand...........

Thanx guys.
Great pics. My wife, the new hunter now going into the 2nd season was peekin over my shoulder while I was lookin at the pics here. She was cooking up some moose sausages at the same time and asked... Is that africa? We should go there.... And as she rolled the sausages in the pan she asked me if the hunters got to eat the meat and if I thought it would be good.
Thanx for sharin ;)

That's excellent timing! Sounds like you're going on a safari!

Thats fantastic!! Good to know.

Nice pics. You had a good hunt. Would you recommend the outfitter? If so, please share, either via PM or on thread.

Cheers,
Patrick.
I hunted 10 days in Namibia with Shona Hunting Adventures. In RSA with Wintersheok Safaris on 2 of their areas, that's where I got the Sable,Roan, Tsessebbe, Bontebok and Nyala. Everything else was shot in Namibia. I would recommend either outfitter.

The oldest giraffe bulls known as "stink bulls" are pretty rank. Other than those, giraffe is quite good. Reminds me of eland.

Africans will eat just about anything, old bulls, guts, blood-shot meat, road-kill and snared animals. At least some will.

bull twang!! i am African..I don't eat everything, probably have shoot every specie in RSA / Namibia / Zimbabwe / Botswana / Zambia and Mozambique, some are good and some are excellent, but don't eat everthing...The local natives may!

In my camp you get prooper meat...lol

Shouldn't be all africans (black and white).

You trimmed that statement down some , lmao.
Don't be too offended, although the statement did paint all Africans with abroad brush.
A lot of the world are convinced Canadian's live in igloos and have sled dogs too.
It's cool to have an African local speak up. Your input is welcomed IMO.
Chime in!

No, not offended at all...lol. Darn, I myself thought all Canadians have sled dogs!!...haha

I actually do. Exception, not the rule.

I agree with the "all Africans" sentiment rather than the divisive ANC interpretation of just who qualifies. Africans are Africans. But I know that Dogleg didn't mean any offense.

This is what I said, can someone show me where I said "all Africans"? Or hinted that the food in Bushwack's camp sucks?

I killed a big dark giraffe last week that was definitely over 20 years old and the meat was very good. As for the locals eating all of the animal, it's been our experience that they certainly do, including the intestines and organs. That's a big part of why animals are not field dressed. The whole animal is taken back to camp when practical so the intestines and organs can be taken out cleanly. We dropped off two quarters of the giraffe at a local school and all the kids were thrilled. The villagers even seemed pleased with the two hyena carcasses we took them.

sheephunter,

That is a wrong statement...in RSA we do it to,

1. 1rstly, NOT to attract any jackal or Hyena from neighbor ranches...they love to kill the young of Impala, Blesbuck, Njala, Steenbuck, Duiker, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok and, and, and...

2. 2ndly, field dressing must be as far possible be done at the skinning shed, it helps to preserve the cape / skin if it gets done at a skinning shed and as quickly as possible, all you equipment, salt, disinfectant ect. are there...

We weren't hunting a ranch so point number one does not apply to our most recent trip and I have no idea what field dressing would have to do with preserving or not preserving the capes. In our case last week it was so the intestines and organs could be better taken care of and delivered in prime condition to the conservancy office or school. It may well be different on your ranch but we weren't on a ranch and there was no skinning shed.
