No pic, so don't give me any grief, the clerk might have got suspicious...

Cooey Model 64B (If I Recall Correctly) semi auto, wood and barrel in Good/Excelent shape. Japanese glass included. Original steel mag (as opposed to a Savage tin replacement)


$150

Buy/Don't buy? Out travelling and will only be in this town a couple more days.

The original Cooey 64 magazines were made of plastic. Then, they die cast the magazine to try to help with the problem of worn feed lips. Don't think it was steel, though.

For $150, to me, it would have to be in excellent shape.

There's a big difference between good and excellent condition. $150.00 is okay if in excellent condition. Price might still be okay if in good condition if the optics are decent. If not, then it's a tad high.
 
Thanks for the feedback. Looking for a Cooey for a "Canadian .22" to add to the box, definitely not a "need" seeing as I've already got 4 .22s I really like and shoot well. Although, you can never have too many .22s.

I'll pop by the LGS out here where I saw it again tomorrow and give it a closer eyeball, and post pics if I decide on getting it. Vacation $$, basically cash I've already consigned to the dustbin of non-accountability/wasted.

If you are looking for a true "Canadian .22" you might want to rethink this. While it was made in Canada, the 64 is Winchester made. If you want Canadian, then Cooey (before Winchester took over) is what you want. But you won't find a semi- automatic made and stamped by the original Cooey company. Just depends on how particular you are by wanting a Canadian .22.

both Cooey and Cooey 'Winchester owned' are made in Canada.... so that would make them both Canadian regardless if Winchester owned them then or not.

Yes, but he said he is looking for a Cooey. Anything Winchester stamped is not an original Cooey and unless it is some of the first Winchester versions after taking Cooey over, corners were cut to save costs. This included stamped parts, hardwood stocks and plastic trigger guards. Plus models were changed from the model 60 to the 600 , the 75 to the 750, and the 84 to the 840. The model 64 in particular is certainly not an original Cooey as it wasn't even in production during the Cooey years.
But as I said, it depends on how particular he is in wanting a true Canadian Cooey. If he doesn't care that it is stamped Winchester, then yes it will fill the bill.

IMO like many said it must be in good shape for over $120.
If you havent been the the gun show in Calgary, its worth going for cooeys.
I counted over 20 and lots of parts. However the good clean ones go fast.
Just an idea. I know that doesnt help with this buy but its worth thinking about.
