Non restircted length for shotgun barrel?

has to be over 26" oal, regardless of the barrel length... also I would not recommend cutting the barrel, especially if its cracking!
 
Ok thanks, and I think the cracking was caused by the previous owner at one point in time, not because of the gun it self.
 
You can go as short as 18" on your gun so lot's to spare. Best to leave it a bit over 18 if you want to go short.
You might prefer a bit of length thought depending on your use?

The barrel length includes the chamber, so yes, it's the full tube length. Unless you do the work yourself, the cost of cutting the barrel, reinstalling a bead or other sight, then threading for a choke tube or installing a Poly-choke, if that's your intention, will exceed the value of the gun, without making it any more valuable or desirable. Hang it on the wall, and acquire a good gun. The "cracked" barrel raises a flag, as shotgun barrels tend to bend, dent, or bulge when abused, and the only time that a barrel cracks is when its fired with the muzzle in the water, then the barrel tends to banana peal back. It would be very difficult to guarantee a cracked barrel's integrity, as the cracking might well extend farther rearward than is immediately apparent.
 
I have cut many over the years. Remember to polish the crown after work is done. 20" seems to swing better than 18" IMHO. You will not have any choke, but try loads with controlled wads in them. Like Black Cloud etc. Start to save for a good 870 Wingmaster.
 
It has to be 26" overall and you can NOT cut your barrel shorter than 18.5" if it's factory made under 18.5" than it's legal but if YOU cut it under 18.5" and don't register it as a restricted your gunna be in some deep S#!T don't let listen to these idiots there gunna get you into trouble

Well, you are in fact wrong.
It's 18 for a manually operated gun, 18.5 for a semi.
Oh and it's not "RCMP LAW!!!" It's federal law. The RCMP simply enforce it.

And yes a Gatling gun would be fine Aslong as it is like the original I think buddy up there is thinking of the mini gun that is full auto,Gatling gun on the other hand is not as if you move the crack an inch it only fires one round thus making it a semi-auto in the sense that your just "pulling the trigger" really fast,now if your thinking like a push button mini gun that's a no no in canada
