Stuck case in die...now what ?

Some good suggestions here.
One day I ran out of options and the case head was pewched.
So I removed what was left of it and found a slightly larger drill
bit that would enter the open case mouth.
Drilled up into the neck area slightly and easily until the neck/shoulder
separated from the case body.
This big chunk of brass was removed.
Then I tinkered with the neck and eventually removed it.
This was done after the decapping pin/expanding ball was removed.
I figured at this time there was nothing to lose as the die was no longer usable.
I succeeded with this method and managed not to damage the die.
Not sure if I would try it again.

Also highly flammable ......

I've shocked tractor axle stubs that were cherry red out of hub's with rare propane. No regulator... raw.
Admittedly I was sceptical at first...did it on the driveway, lol.
But propane is pretty hard to light. Haven't lived til you've seen a toolpush at -30C turn the torch on the base of a 100 pd bottle to warm it up so it'll vaporize...in the middle of a field, lol. No where to hide.
Pretty wild actually

I had the same thing happen, oddly enough with a 300WM. I beat the case out with the decapping rod yes, it ruined the rod. I bought a new one. No damage to the die body. The added benefit is that it relieves some of your fury at yourself after you've got the case in the first place. Therapeutic.

I'm not arguing that it wouldn't work, I just don't like Wiley Coyote possibility ...........LOL.

Drop $15 and get the stuck case extractor kit before you need it...

OK, not OP, but there's a lesson here for others. Cheap insurance.

I tighten the nut on the die really tight so the die does not turn in the press, then snap the vice grips on the base of the die as tight as you can and twist the case. this will almost always loosen the case.
be sure to use real "VICE GRIPS" not those cheap imitations. this procedure only takes a couple minutes.

Assuming you can pull the decapping rod out, just hammer the brass out with a punch after spraying some lube all over the brass/die.

Good luck. I had a 223 rem case stuck in my hornady die and it wouldn't huge no matte dhow much oil or how big of hammer used.

Pick up a stuck case remover and in 5 min you will have it out and be loading again. I have the rcbs stuck case remover and the rcbs stuck case remover 2. Wouldn't be without them now.

This is what comes in the kit

The stuck case remover 2 has the tools to remove the decapping assembly.

Got a stuck case out of my 22/6mm Rem. A.I die today.I have a RCBS stuck case remover but when I turned the screw in it just stripped the brass.Drilled a bigger hole and tried a eze out but no luck.By this time there was not much of the head left so I cut off it off about flush with the bottom of the die.Got a high quality bolt 1/4x2in fine tread and ground off most of the head and put it in the case that I had scratched the inside of ltheeaving about 1 in of tread outside.I then filled the case with fast drying epoxy making sure the bolt was about centered. The package said it was totaly cured in 2 hrs.but it seemed pretty soft to me so I forgot about for a week Today I put the socket thing from the stuck case remover on the bolt and put the nut on and it came out with no damage to the die.............hessels

I was at a friends house getting some work done on a rifle. He has been shooting, loading and working on guns since shortly after WW2. He told me he had just got done sticking a case in a die. He stopped just short of pulling the rim off the case. I volunteered to take the die home with me and take the case out for him.
At home I put the die in a jar of kerosene, so that the die was completely submerged.
After a couple of days I took the die out, put it in my press so my shell holder was connected to the stuck case. I gave the handle of the press a slap and the case flew right out of the die!
