question is about the year... i found many post saying that the month corresponds with a letter i know what month mine was made what i'm wondering is what year it is

my manufacture date code on the barrel is DBR
D stands for September but what does the BR stand for ?
 
I'd be careful with that. It's not certain that the barrel of the gun is original to the gun. Also, I believe Remington, having made the 870 for so long, repeats the letters when they run out again.
For the best results, I'd call Remington, give your S/N and ask them directly.
 
The barrel was. Email Remington with the serial # from the receiver to get a date on it.

Case in point if you aged my wifes Wingmaster by the barrel you'd get 2008 but age it by the receiver and you get the early 70s'
