Hello:

I just purchased a Vortex Razor HD Gen II 1-6x24 that will be spending time atop my Daniel Defense DDM4V5 and potentially some time on top of my Robinson Arms XCR. I am looking for a recommendation for a suitable mount for these firearms. ADM, Bobro, LaRue Tactical, Burris??? High, low, offset no offset????? So many choices. Please school me on what would be an appropriate choice for this scope. Thanks in advance for your time.

One thing I see here is the choice of scope for the rifles mentioned. A Vortex Razor 6x24 scope weights a bit over two pounds, and is designed for much longer precision shooting than the cartridges used in this rifle is really effective at. In my experience, 24 power is a lot more than you should need and mounting that weight on a rifle that is designed for engaging targets at closer ranges, let us say 500 meters with a more practical 300 meters, under adverse conditions, is less than "practical." If it were to be mounted on an Accuracy International or other long range precision rifle, I think it would be a fairly good choice, but even then, most military long range situations have found that 10X is adequate.

I do think that the Vortex optics are very good and their optics are excellent. However, in my opinion and experience, there are more suitable Vortex or other brand scopes that are better suited for the rifle/cartridge combination that you are intending to use it on, and the accuracy capabilities of those firearms, especially at the longer ranges.

But, after all, it is your choice in the long run. Just thought I would put my two cents worth in of "lessons learned' from over 50 years of practical experience.

For AR15 you should go with a 2" offset mount.

Burris is affordable in the standard version if you go with the QD I think you have better choice for the
same price.

Aero Precision mount is affordable and very light. But I don't have personal experience with them.

Bobro expensive, super solid mount and hard to found. I think OSTS have some Bobro products.

Larue Tactical is expensive, super solid and add a super "cool factor" because all the "operators" use them but they are almost impossible to found. You'll have to cross the border with a ITAR item(I don't recommend) or look around EE and wait...

Vortex mounts are made by ADM so I think they are overpriced. I personally prefer the look of the ADM. Go with the Vortex if you want the same brand with your scope or don't QD because they have a standard version.

ADM mount is my personal choice. They are solid, they're at the right price for a QD mount and I like the look of it.

I have a rob arms xcr l with a viper pst 1-4x24. I have a burris pepr mount and adm 3" offset qd mount. Both are nice with the adm being better quality.

Buffdog, you read his post incorrectly. He has a 1-6 magnification with a 24mm objective lens. Nice optic!!

Cheers

The OP posted that he purchased the Razor Gen II 1-6x24 You misread the magnification. Likely the best choice of glass he could have put on his AR, specially if he is using it for 3-gun. 25oz of pure excellence!

I just picked up an ADM QD Recon mount from Brownells. Awesome mounts and well made. I also own a Burrs Pepr (non-QD) and Vortex (non-QD) mounts. Wish I'd gone with ADM QD mounts from the start.

Hello Everyone;

Thank you for your responses. If one were to be leaning towards the ADM QD with offset would you go with a 2" or 3" offset? The scope's listed eye relief is 4". Both of the guns that the scope would ever see action on are equipped with Magpul 5 position(???) adjustable CTR type of stocks. I am 6' tall and would normally have both stocks in their fullest "extended" position when shooting them. Again, thank you for all of your replies to date.

I have the 3" and it sits perfectly. Either or would be fine in reality.

Ah! My bad. Thanks for the correction. Guess I will blame that on 73 year old eyes. The 1000 yard targets are getting a bit blurry.

That's my story and I am sticking to it. Laugh2

In that case, it is a good choice. I am impressed with the Vortex optics and I think they are a very good buy for the money.

Thank you everyone for your input! I ordered the AMD 2" offset mount and some Vortex Flip up covers (Size #3 and #5 are the ones you need for this scope, or so my research tells me). Canada post shows my inbound package with the scope as being out for delivery this morning, I guess I had better not go out for lunch today. Everything is coming together!

Again thanks,

Chizzy
