Hey all,

I've currently got a Mueller APV 4.5-14 by 40mm on my 10/22, but i'm looking to get a red dot as well just for general plinking and having some fun...

Any suggestions? Looking at $150 as the high point on my budget, and it must be able to fit on a weaver base!

Thanks!

TG

+1 for trs-25. Do your homework and you can find a high rise mount and rds for under $120 tax in.
Proline is where I got mine.
Highcal wants $160 for the same thing.

It's only a .22. What about a no name $30 RD out of Hong Kong?

That works for some, I guess. But when your eyes have north of 40 years of mileage on them, the milky/grainy quality that all of those Cheapo optics possess gets really hard to stare through for any length of time.

Cheap glass is cheap glass. There's a low end that you just don't want to go beyond.

If the trs had a shut off it would be awesome. To the OP please look at the dot size. 3-5moa dots are great for up close and peraonal but the father out you go, the more the dot will cover. I guess it all depends on what youre using it for and how accurate you want to get with a rds.
Just my 2 cents.
My guess is most will disagree with me. Atleast thats what normally happens.

I agree with you. I love the Bushnell TRS-25 but you have to turn the knob which is really stiff to turn on and off. that knob also houses the battery cover and an O ring

every time you turn the knob you turn the battery cover too and squish the O ring. or turn the other way and untighten the battery cover. I fixed mine by putting a small drop of blue loctite on the battery cover thread.....just enough to keep it from turning when turning the optic on and off.

I almost always use setting 6 so I'd rather keep it there and have an "On" "Off" switch

I find the 3 MOA dot a little big but that's just my opinion

it's still the best bang for the buck. nice and compact too

while i prefer glass over red dots i did recently put a couple red dots on my 22's on side mounts for close up gophers (for when they rush ya!)
i was gonna go with the TRS because i have used them before and they where really good.
but i instead went onto e(vil)bay and picked up an exact knock off one for $25.
in fact i picked up 3.
so far they run great, but keep i mind i seldom use them, they are just back up.

I've had a tasco red dot for a couple years now. It seems to hold it's zero good. I've used it to shoot out to 200 yards with my .22 lever. Only cost $40 at Cabela's, Canadian Tire has them too.

Hical has a wicked one, can't recall the name, something with operators edition on it. Red and green with the choice of four reticles. It rules

Nope, I agree too. RD's are nice for close in fast stuff where any hit is good enough. Not so nice for even 25 yards if one is going for a nice grouping. And downright useless if the dark bull zone is smaller than the red dot so you can't even center the dot in the dark area.
