My 'as new' 590A1 arrived today, purchased off the EE. I am quite pleased with (a) the transaction and (b) the gun. I understand the high regard many have for the type.

This gun has the 18-1/2" barrel. My lady had handled a 20" model with full mag tube and found it too muzzle heavy for her liking. The factory stock was also too long for both of us. Another 20" model with full mag tube, collapsible butt stock and PG fore end was the most awkward shotgun I've ever handled, especially for her as a lefty.

This gun came with both the original furniture and after market Magpul fore end and butt stock. I added one 1/2" spacer of the four provided which gave a LOP of 13". Her '97 CAS gun has 12-3/4" but the Magpul butt puts your hand 1/2" closer to the trigger, so it balances out. The length also suits me just fine.

Function testing it with bird shot loads, recoil was negligible. I like the ghost ring sights and can't wait to try them on clay birds.

I have the same gun except it's the full-size 20-inch model. I installed the Magpul buttstock and the forend. The length of pull is 12.5" without any spacers, which is where I like it. I can shoot it and my petite girlfriend handles it well, too. I find that the magpul forend and buttstock really balance the weight of the heavy barrel much better since it allows you to hold the forend further back opposed to the corn cob style. That's just my opinion and experience, of course. :)
Enjoy the gun, they're great.

Have you guys shot any clays with your guns?

Our club bought a pair of 'Blacksheep' bird throwers we use in CAS. They flick the bird straight up with a nylon web belt that gets pulled taught when the mechanism is tripped by a falling plate. Utterly reliable with no bird breakage. They also toss the "Rabbit" clays.

We want to use these throwers in 3-gun events as well.

I shot clays with my 20" 590A1 the other week and did just fine. I have a stealth gray Magpul set waiting here to install except I'm still waiting for a site sponsered dealer here to resolve an issue with my order. ;(

They are pretty awesome... I like my 18.5" all dressed in wood. Ghost ring sights are excellent too.

Is that a sling swivel stud on the end of the mag tube? Wheredja get it? I intend to pack the gun n our bush jaunts. Lots of bears around this year.
Got charged three times by the same bear this spring. I was packing my 50-70 Sharps carbine at the time. I'd have one shot and then a good club.

I have the Magpul receiver mounted sling attachment and one for the Magpul fore end. Just not sure about attaching a sling to the fore end that way. No place for the barrel/mag tube mount on the shorty.

In the event that my wife finds the fore end too much of a reach, I have a Magpul short PG I can attach for her. Neither of us cared for it on our AR 15 M4 carbines.

They come in a little yellow envelope which is easy to miss in a new gun. People often throw 'em out with the packing paper not realizing there's more. Hell, I almost did.
Good news is it will still work with the bayonet lug, though i can't imagine having a sling and a bayonet at the same time would work. :p

I would think that a 'Uncle Mike's' swivel attachment would work as well. I'll check it out.
