I've chosen NEA as my first AR15!

I have cleaned up the thread, dealt out infractions and removed non-relevant / trolling / disruptive / rebuttal posts /comments that have nothing to do with the OP's thread to begin with. Keep the threads civil, pertinent & on track.

I don't have a Norinco AR, but have had Norinco firearms and I do have an NEA AR. I would without a doubt get the NEA, they really are not comparable. Unless you want to get a combo deal going on with a Norinco AR, it seems to be an excellent value.

I am still torn between a Norico CQ-A and a NEA for my first AR.

Both are in my price range i am willing to spend but reports suggest problems with part compatibility with the CQ-A.

My NEA is 14.5 BBL and love it. I'm not sure what prices are like in NZ but here in Canada it was an excellent buy. Too bad we can't hunt with AR's and many will say that 223, 556 shouldn't be used on medium game. I do personally know some that have taken medium size game with the right projectile in this calibre. Under the right conditions I think I would personally try it, but I also have other rifles for hunting. As for your wife, well ... she should see how happy it makes you :D

Hi Team, all the from way over here in NZ- I have finally made the call and purchased a second hand NEA 12.5" carbine. Included in the sale is the NEA "mini-can" suppressor and a Crusader muzzle brake. So here are my queries:
Anyone have any trigger time on the 12.5: bbl NEA's? How is the trigger- will it suffice for casual goat and pig elimination?
Am I good to go out to 200m on medium size game, shooting spire points (will they still expand?)
My next mission is explaining to my wife why and how this purchase was a good and sound economic decision. Any advice appreciated.:rockOn::rockOn:

I love my 12.5 NEA build! I use it for CQB mostly and I haven't had a stoppage yet(2000+ rounds so far).

A cheap(free) trigger job can be as simple as removing the lower and firing the action a few thousand times(make sure you catch the hammer though and don't let it slam into the lower receiver!)

Nice 12.5 AR you have there. I am thinking this will be in my future as well, heres my DMR setup which is running excellent.

Yup, my wife is still pretty crazy about my purchase! Hold on a second fellas- are you telling me you are not allowed to hunt with AR's in Canada? Down here in NZ, the .223 (and .222) round has taken thousands of deer (and pigs, thar, chamois). In any case, we live rural and have seen an increase in rabbits on the property. The answer: NEA-15 W/12.5' BBL. I am going to sneak out before dawn this saturday and climb onto the roof. I have been watching a rogue pod of rabbits enjoying the early mornin' sun out front of the house. Ranges will be around 20-75m......weapons free-engage targets at will!!!

Yup, in Canada, the AR15 and its variants are classified as restricted firearms, which mean we can only shoot them at approved firing ranges. Restricted firearms also have more stringent storage and transportation rules, which are all just a bunch of BS. It really sucks.

Oh, and sound suppressors are prohibited. Even more suckage.

I also bought an NEA 16.5" for my first AR while i was home on leave. Great rifle, only put about 120 rounds or so through it before i had to lock it back up and head back overseas.

I have lots of experience with C7's and C8's, so im not new to AR platforms and i really enjoyed shooting the NEA. The trigger is a little heavy (no different than a service rifle), but that's becasue i love my 3.5lbs trigger on my 1911 (i hold everything i shoot to that standard). I also had issues with the bolt not locking while using magpul pmags. Ive read other ppl have had similar issues, but to me thats a simple fix, new bolt catch.

I personnaly dont mind tweaking my firearms so they perform exactly how i want them. I think that half the fun of owning firearms, being able to mod/tweak/personnalize you equipment. I haven't contacted NEA yet about the bolt catch, im not home and theres F all i can do about it until i am.

I did put a magpul ACS stock on it, and a vortex strikefire red dot. Gonna add a vortex 3x magnifier, probably a geissle/timney 2 stage, some sort of muzzle brake, etc, etc....
I love modding my guns....

anyways, if this thread is still active when i get home, ill for sure post some pics

congrats on you AR, super jelous of your rooftop rabbit hunting..lol

Yes- I guess we are lucky to hunt with suppressors. They really help when I encounter an unruly, ornery mob of feral goats- they just can't figure out where the shooting's coming from. Hence the large amount of goat meat in the freezer....!

I've had enough of this BS..... instead of offering encouragement to a new AR owner and offering tips on how to become familiar / proficient with it the thread gets derailed and turns into a brand bashing thread because of the "professional" opinions of a few who do not like brand x and thrive on disrupting things. It actually turns my stomach.

Take a carbine course........then go out shooting with your PRA (if your PRA is still useful) or join the Army and get on a rifle team for a few years. If you can get a grip on CQB weapons handling from the Carbine course and break 550 in matches 1-12(950 CAFSAC CoF), you will have a pretty good grasp on how to shoot an AR to its capabilities.

Was that more helpful?

That's a great looking gun!
Man, I am trying my darndest to hold off purchasing one of these bad boys.
I really want to save up for the 7.62x39 with the extra .22 upper for cheap target practice, I know I know, cheaper than 7.62??
I am gonna have to sell some stuff outta the garage and get a spot polished up in the safe for one of these,

Rock on, have fun. Pic's will make many of us jealous.
