Laminate SKS looks like a cheap way of doing it.

I have a laminate SKS and I don't like the look especially near the bayonet. It looks like cheap plywood. I don't like the look of it. Why were some SKS's made with this wood instead of the solid wood like this? I think I will be selling it I have had it for six months and still haven't warmed up to it.

Eh, the SKS is a precision rifle how?

The Russians went to laminate stocks because they were easier to procure and much more stable than hardwood stocks. Sourcing the vast quantities of quality hardwood needed to make millions of rifles is not an easy task, but if one can take advantage of sheets of Artic Birch or Russian Birch, then it makes production easier.

The SKSs are precision rifles on the internet. You dont believe all the internet stories about .5 MOA SKS's at 300 yards?

I think you answered all of your own questions.
1) It looks like plywood because that's essentially what laminate is, fancy plywood.
2) They were made this way because it was cheaper.

Why do so me people get so horny over laminate stocks on SKS? I personally don't like them at all a solid pice of wood is the

The laminate stock is much tougher than the hardwood stock, it is much more resistant to moisture as well. The hardwood stocks occasionally crack at the grip and that was one of the reasons for the move to laminate. It may not be the prettiest stock, but it is functionally superior.

... Question answered?

Much more durable than the earlier hardwood ones. Many actually prefer the grain of the laminate stocks and have refinished and stained them in numerous colors with stunning results.

I've done a few laminate stocks as well. Lots of potential.
I do agree with the OP, though, the original hardwood in Russian red is by far the nicest.
