Browning t-bolt 17hmr? 22lr? Or 22mag?

I met a guy who has one in 17HMR, he loves the thing. As for the caliber....they vary GREATLY of course, best to decide what you want to do with it before picking one. 22WMR and 17HMR get a little pricey if you're just punching paper with them. I consider 22WMR a more versatile caliber for small-ish sized game, 17HMR the king of gopher blasters.

These are very good shooters. The t-bolt action is smooth as silk. The .17HMR is king of the small varmint killers. As for 100 yard plus precision though.....meh. My preference would be the .22WMR. Hard to find though... and they are pricey.

^^^^This. Each has its purpose. If a range and bunny gun, then 22 lr. 22 WMR is as the saying goes...twice a LR and half a Hornet. A great round for doing what the 22LR does, just farther.

Both the 17 HMR and 22 WMR are much more expensive than the 22LR. They approach center fire for cost of ammo, although unlike 22 LR at this point one can almost always find it.

If you are unsure, then have you considered one of the switch barrel options such as the CZ 455, or Sako Quad.
 
Pros: Very slim, great mag, very accurate, nice features.
Cons: High price, bolt action is a bit hinky back and forth and can be short stroked, forend on mine was too slim to fit a standard bipod.

Not worth it in 22LR, but an OK choice if you're looking at 17 HMR.
 
I really like my 22 mag and ammo goes for 55 bucks per 250 (.22 cents per round) which I do not consider expensive. 40 grain CCI Choot-ems will punch 1" holes or less at 100 yards and definitely work the best out of all the ammo that I have tried. CZ definitely make the better gun but my Savage works just fine. I would feel good about buying the CZ online but the Savage is best bought at a dealer in case you have to bring it back.

Some info on the Savage, at least mine. The ring mounts make very little contact and will need to be epoxied. Some people are having problems with the magazines just emptying themselves. Accu-trigger is best described as approximate trigger as I was never able to get it down to 3 pounds. The magazine plate is structural and cheap and I had to epoxy bed it to get proper support. The front pillar is not sell supported and will also need to be built up. In the end I had to use a steel washer and some epoxy. I should have bought the CZ but my son saw the thumbhole stock on the Savage and I was sunk.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Savage and it does shoot straight but they are more of a diamond in the rough than anything.
