What do you think of the RIA 10-22 clone?

yes I did. And thanks. I have done a bunch of SKS rifles as well and all have turned out great.
1- sand stock with 180 sand paper.
2- use WATER Base stain, "pick a color" and rub or brush it on exposed wood evenly. Repeat if you want it darker.
3- let stand for 12 hours.
4 lightly sand again with 400 grit. The water based stain will raise the wood and you want to make it smooth again.
5- apply True oil , either brush, spray, or with fingers. 1 coat every 8 hours "very time consuming." after the 5th coat you must sand with 600 WET sand paper. Apply 4 more coats of True-oil. Lightly sand with 1000 grit WET sand paper.
6-use car Polishing Compound, then put car Wax on, then Buff with electric Buffer till it looks WET.
Ya its a lot of work, but the outcome is spectacular.

Took it out today and its a blast! The extra 25 round mag I bought was sh*t and jammed all the time so its being returned, but the 10 rounder it came with was great. very solid rifle, feels good in the hands, and ate all my 525 value pack ammo. ill have to get it to the range in my rifle rest to see about accuracy, but after a quick zero before the bunny scout it was shooting " minute of bunny head". still would like to know about the free float though, I think it may make a difference.
I was looking at the band, it doesn't touch the barrel. seems to be cosmetic only.
Maybe you should tighten it....lol.
Mine clamps everything down pretty tight. Free floating a 10/22 causes more problems then benefits, the barrel attachment is weak, and the receiver is aluminium. The barrel needs support. On the heavy barrel target versions, the end of the stock has a shelf the barrel sits on, not free floated either.
Now if you want to get a Dlask threaded receiver/barrel gun, that would be a good candidate for ff-ing.
These shoot pretty good as is, with these barrels they will never be MOA rifles no matter what you do with them, good enough to pluck game out to 50m....but a target rifle it ain't.
Interesting... of course its tight... its a perfect gap between barrel and band. So the band is doing nothing but ... umm... nothing. I will bed it eventually, thanks for the info. but, should I be returning this one? like I said it seems just fine.

Realize that this thread's been dormant for a few months here but I had a question about these rifles...
I picked one up yesterday during the Black Friday sales for $149. Seemed like a great deal so i didn't want to pass it up. My question is this, can I drop this into a Boyd's laminate stock? I've read in a few threads on this gun that it can be finicky with various stocks so I thought that I'd ask before hunting down a Boyd's that I like. Thanks.

I ended dropping mine into a Choate Folding stock with about 20 seconds of bastard filing where the trigger assemble slides in, and a small cut in the top hand guard for the rear sight). Its a very nice tight fit. with the original stock, I got a 25 round mag (Clear but creek) that was a little tight going in, had to take a bit of plastic off the sides of the mag.
