Shipping a Barreled Action to the US to a Gunsmith

Not sure if this is the 100% right way to do it but I have just shipped the barreled action to them with no paperwork and then had it imported to get it back in the country. Did this a couple of times with no problems.
 
US law requires import/export licensing in advance and has for a few years now. Contact the shop in the US and find out if they will even do that part of it. Many are not interested in doing that.
 
with the state of the Americans right now . I could see sending a firearm there with out the proper paper work , becoming a major ass burn.
 
Don't do it if possible. Find a Canadian gunsmith to do it. If you have to, call the RCMP and request the information/paper work, or you may have to call the state department you are sending it to for the paper work. Its a pain in the ass.
 
Why call the RCMP? They usually don't know squat about the US import/export regulations...

Call the 'barrel maker' in the US and get the info from the horses mouth rather than the other end.
 
Why not order a new barrel and have it fitted in Canada. Dealing with the USA on this stuff is not a lot of fun. If you ship it south without the proper paper work it is possible you will loose it.

Being as most if not all pre 1970 vintage Mausers are now classified by Dept of State as "weapon of war" it will not be allowed into the USA, regardless of what has been done to the rifle. We spent a considerable amount of time trying to export a custom rifle in 243 that was simply based on a 98 action to an heir in Ca.
No go, end of story.
This same idiotic ruling is the basis of the Garands from Korea not being allowed into the USA as well as keeping our own AR15 variants out of a large market that I really would like access to.
 
Thanks to all for your replies. I guess that idea is out. Ian if you re-read my first line you will understand why I wanted to re-bore. Anyone have any suggestions who could do this in Canada?
