So as I am enjoying fondling my new colt le6920 I taught what a deal from IRG, before it arrive I had read on internet bad reviews regarding fit of the upper to lower and finish (scratch and handling marks) I am happy to report the fit and finish on the colt is prestine!

Here is a poor side by side ( the other pic are better)

A shot of the dd receiver with very clean laser engraving

Here is the le6920 his also flawless but the engraving are not laser cut and are less precise.

Other side, dd then colt

Buffer tube, dd with six position and is fairly tight, second the 4 position colt with significantly more play then the dd!

Inside the receiver on top dd with the hollowed out receiver and colt with the reinforced receiver ( I did not know this difference, but I don't think it makes much difference)

Dd on the left colt right, the dd seems to have slightly thicker wall on the receiver.

Almost identical fa bcg, colt top dd bottom.

Dd chamber, feed ramp and inner upper view. Notice the coating.(sorry for the bad quality pic)

Colt seem uncoated

So all and all, 2 amaizing ar15, both milspec! Witch one is better??? Well I would say the dd has a cold hammer forge barrel, coated internal and better buffer tube, but about the barrel how much do you expect to shoot it? 4000-5000 round? Well your never going to see the end of the colt. Yes the dd has a bit more but is also a bit more money!

At 998$ us dollar this colt was a steal! The guys that got th ddm4v1 for 1000$ can got a even better deal but to me those two guns are awsome and both keepers and I would add then I the long run in 40-50 years the colt will probably be worh more it is the kind of gun you ould call a earloom gun.

That is not a reinforced receiver. Colt left the material there in the lower to prevent people from installing drop in automatic sear. In the old days, they would have milled out the entire pocket, and installed a block onto the pocket.

Thanks for the education! ! :)

Lucky you got such a nice fit and finish. My Colt was all marked and scratched up when I got it. Not the end of the world, but kind of disappointing.

I guess it's hit and miss with the finish. It sure is a straight shooter though :) that's what's important!

That sucks, i am sorry to hear that!

OP, thanks for posting your findings as well as pictures. It's nice to see the two side-by-side.

From what I've heard, DD ARs are generally finished nicer because it is marketed to the consumer (and we all know how picky we can be when it comes to the finish on a product, especially if we're paying that kind of $$), where as Colt generally mass produces for LE/MIL, who's personnel are pretty hard on their equipment and don't really care about the finish. I can't speak for others in the LE/MIL community, but I for one am not concerned about laying my work rifle down gently on the matt, or how the roll marks look on it. I won't hesitate to drop it in the dirt, on rocks, gravel or whatever, as long as I maintain it properly, and it goes bang evertime I squeeze the trigger.

My personal firearms however, I do care about, and if there's a blemish on the finish, my panties will be in a knot, I gah-ron-tee it, haha!

I would also say the finish on my dd metal parts seem slightly nicer, like 10% but if it wasn't a side by side I couldn't tell.

Nice comparison...that was great.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "I would buy a Colt just to say that I have a Colt." For me, nothing beats the quality that a Daniel Defense offers for the money. I haven't been in the AR/M4 game for a long time, but from what I've seen so far, DD has come out on top on more than one discussion about quality, affordable rifles.

It stands to reason that they would be similar, if you look closely at the pics both uppers and lowers are marked with the "keyhole" mark, indicating they were produced by Cerro forge and merely rebranded by DD and colt respectively.

Update on the Colts finish, well seem like there is some finish defect that I didn't see the other day due to oil residue. It is not the end of the world, it is not a big deal for me really I don't really care.

Well I am in by no means an expert on ar15's and I do not have a caliper to mesure it but I am shure the dd lower as thicker wall's then the colt. Also there are some distinct difference in the forming of both upper as pictured below.

Dd will be on top (first) and colt on the bottom.

I will bring your attention to the front of the ejection port.

So are these from the same mold? No... are they from the same manufacturer? I don't have a clue.
