Glock 34 gen 4 or CZ 75 sp-01 shadow

They are both good, but the best suggestion that I can give is that you try to handle them both and see which one seems to fit your hand better. I know that I prefer to do things that way myself because I have small hands and it is sometimes hard to find a pistol that will fit just right.
One thing in the glocks favor is that the Gen 4 Glocks have the assorted sizes of rear handgrips, which make it easier to find the right one for you.

I own a Glock 17 with some mods, which is a little bit smaller and lighter than a 34, and a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow.
Tbolt is right when he recommends you to handle both since Cz is heavier and the grip angle is distinct from the Glock.
From the shooting perspective, Cz (being heavier) has a less perceived recoil and a slight better accuracy (at least in my case) however you won't find for Cz as many accessories as Glock have, and this is an important aspect if you want to pimp your pistol in the future. At last but not least, the trigger feeling are complete different and although I love my Glock (the first firearm I ever bought 15 years ago) the Cz has a better trigger (even after modding my Glock).
As mardig88 wrote, the best way is to shoot both and then decide which one you prefer (at least for now).

both good guns. question is: are you the kind of mod freak? if so, the 34 and glocks at large are easy to modify, plenty of parts available. as for the CZ, yep you still can get some goodies for, but changes they brings will never get as dramatic (lol) as on glocks .
i've built myself couple limited 10 glocks(17,35,34 ) who are at light years to what they were before. trigger weight break (my 35 is at 2.3 onces break) , weight added-removed, slide lightened ....i've changed all internals to reach a feel only thousand dollars guns can provide.

If it's your 1st pistol you can't go wrong with either.
However, after shooting a few Glocks 17,19,34(in 3rd and 4th GENs), Beretta 92A1/Storm, Sig 226/229, H&K P30 and CZ SP-01 Shadow/P-07 Duty (All in 9mm)
I prefer the CZ pistols. The grip feels most natural fit (to me) and with the slide riding inside the frame gives me more contact space for my grip/thumbs
(Feels like less recoil and better control) The Shadow has a flat black rear sight and the red fibre optic front; you can re acquire target quicker then the others.
I’m just a causal target shooter so no IPSC experience, but it’s good to know it’s one of the most loved IPSC pistols.
Go CZ SP-01 Shadow once you try it there is no turning back....

Glock. I never really liked the weight of shadows. (but it is the reason novice shooter shoot them decently..)
If going CZ, maybe look into a non railed shadowline or better yet, a CZ 85 combat (w/o firing pin block, ie: no "b" suffix)

If you go Glock, buy the G35 and get a 9mm conversion barrel for it. Then, if you choose to start shooting IPSC, you'll have a reasonable Standard gun to compete with.
If I could go back a few years and do it again, that's what I'd do. I didn't compete when I bought the G34 way back, then down the road I started to compete and found I bought the wrong model for the job.

I competed with both a G34 and a Shadow a few years ago. I liked the G34 a lot (and I like Glocks a lot in general) but I shot the Shadow noticeably better. It had better sights, far better trigger pull, and it's heavier weight kept the recoil down.
