been doing some research on the gun and most places you look they have magums is the recoil the same or more ?? im just curious too know is it a better one than the regular one ????? thanks >>> hound13

Your research was pretty skimpy there partner... a 7mm-08 is built on the short action .308 case... not the belted magnum case of the 7mm RM... the energy is considerably less and therefore so is the recoil... also, it is not a gun, it is a cartridge... the gun is what houses it in order to fire it.

Lovely cartridge to shoot, especially if looking for accuracy out 300 odd meters. plenty enough Gun for most Deer and I wouldn't hesitate if I had a 7-08 an a bull elk walked out of the bushline at 250m! of course id have a nice stout projectile loaded.

I like the 7mm-08 as well. I've owned a few of them.

However, I sold my last 7mm-08 on Sunday .. so now I'm not sure what to do.
Should I buy another 7mm-08 .. (e.g. a Kimber Montana M84) ?
Or, instead, should I replace it with a .25-06 .. (e.g. L84) ?

Hmmm ... decisions, decisions.

Ah, you don't need any newfangled 7mm-08. Get ya self a rifle chambered in 7x57mm Mauser (.275 Rigby). Tried & true and short action be damned :p.

I really do hope you would hesitate..the 708 is NOT a 250M elk cartridge...where does the 308 , 30-06 , 7 RM come into play here ...help

You punch them in the right spot and a .22LR will kill them at that distance. It's all about shot placement, and if WhelenLad has the skills and confidence to put the shot in the right spot at 250m then why shouldn't he? Not everyone needs to have some goddamn magnum to kill things.

Go ven Swede yeah! 6.5X 55 FTW! Think of your prior experience - 7mm-08, but with class, and a exceptionally efficient bullet composition with a stronger performance than a '308 past 200 yards - and that is with a lackluster load out via antique 'safe' cartridges.
