Brand New Savage 111 Misfiring

Hi guys,

I bought a Savage 111 Hunter XP in 30-06 from Canadian Tire last week. I've been out to the range twice with it and after 40-50 rounds I have had approximately 15 misfires. The ammo I've used has been all factory: 180 gr Winchester Ballistic Silvertips, 180 gr Remington Core-Lokts, and 180 gr Winchester Power Points. All three have had light primer stirkes.

I thoroughly cleaned the rifle after buying it and as far as I know I haven't done anything wrong.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone before?
 
Pay attention to how you are pulling the trigger. Assuming its an accutrigger, if you lightly feather the side of the trigger without fully depressing the accutrigger safety mechanism it will not fire. Try just pulling the trigger without depressing the safety trigger and you will see what I mean. If its not accutrigger I cant help you.

I had the same thing happen with my Savage and also some issues with the magazine not fully seating (partially me and partially a stiff mag)
 
Thanks guys. But It's not an accutrigger. Not a magazine problem, either. Rounds are chambering and ejecting just fine but not firing. The primers are all indented, just not enough.
 
I've been having issues with my 111 as well, hopefully the OP gets his resolved.

If you take the bolt apart the spring tension is adjustable on the firing pin, possibly wasn't adjusted properly from the factory.
 
I thought the only savage rifles without accu trigger where the stevens and the first gen axis .

my first though would be to take apart the bolt / firing pin and see if it moves smoothly and is not binding , clean and lubricate with graphite .

something else to check , maybe someone undid the barrel nut and turned the barrel causing headspace issues , which could be causing light firing pin strikes .

There a still quite a few models on the "budget" end of the scale that do not have the accutrigger. Agreed on both points though.

OP, did you have the misfires with all three types of ammo? Or did you burn up two boxes and then have trouble with the third box only? Did you try the same rounds a second time, and if so, did they fire on the second attempt?
 
I bought a used rem 783 ( 3 years old and had less than a box through it and had Missfires with factory rounds
a bit aggravating when factory rounds randomly do not go off

A new heaver spring fixed it

I did check fired rounds shoulder dimension to another rifle and it was good (Headspace)
