I bought a new Remington R1 1911 .45 ACP today! Thoughts and opinions on these?

I have the enhanced and it is very nice and accurate.

One thing though - when you reassemble the gun after cleaning, make sure the extra safety lever that protrudes from the firing pin area is indeed DOWN and out of sight. I mistakenly had the gun upside down when reassembling the slide onto the rails and inadvertently cut the lever off. The part is a cheap piece of metal that is supposed to be a block to the firing pin in order to provide an extra measure of safety for preventing inadvertent firing if the pistol is dropped on a hard surface while cocked. It is BS in my opinion but there. If you sever the lever (easy to do since it doesn't take much force) the gun will not go bang and you need to replace the part.

Noted.

So I picked it up from the gun store this morning, all good, I like it.

The transfer and STATT all went through pretty fast, I could have arranged to pick it up yesterday but was busy so I had them issue the STATT for today.

I sure wish that crap was part of the RPAL though, what a bunch of nothing for nothing.

Money just isn't with me for that, but I hope and I'm sure the R1 will be a lot of fun.

I am not into dropping any coin on a PRC type of gun, JMO. ;)

I should be clear, I'm not saying that the R1 is not a decent firearm but it's not one that I would consider an investment piece, but I guess what constitutes an investment piece depends on how much disposable income you have. Regardless, I'm sure you'll have a ton of fun shooting your R1. Enjoy.

My first 1911 was one of the Norinco gun/ammo deals from CanAm and while it shoots perfectly fine it's not much to look at. I would rather have a R1 than that ugly Norc any day.

DOOH ! wish I saw that coupon on the Rem before I bought my Ruger
It was a coin toss between the two , so similar , but $100 back would have swung the deal.

Remington was the biggest M1911 manufacturer during WWII, so they would know how to make a good 1911 pistol.

That would be Remington Rand (the Remington Typewriter company), NOT the Remington gun company...

Remington UMC (the ammunition company) manufactured 1911s during WWI...cool slide markings...

the R1 is going to be the next 1911 to join my safe harem.
but i think ill invest the extra $ and go with the Enhanced version.
when i was looking at them the Enhanced was very comparable to my Ruger SR.

there dosnt seem to be much sway in price for them, but i did notice Joe Brooks had a massive sale on them last year.
you could, at that time, pick up the enhanced for the price of a regular R1, and the regular R1 was selling for the price of a SAM.

that is what im waiting in the bushes and stalking.... waiting for them to come on sale again.

on the plus side, since all 1911's look the same as long as you only bring 1 out of the safe at a time your wife will never know how many you have!

Just order one online from Epps, the basic R1 for 760.00 all in... It make me smile, you can buy 3 for the price of a Les Baer... JP.
